Our lives are constantly filled with questions.the answers that we give can change the direction of our lives and the lives of our families.

2 OUR LADY OF LORETTO HOMETOWN - OAK LAWN Page 2 Dear Parish Family, Our lives are filled with questions. For students, where should I go to college? For parents, how will we be able to afford college? When will I be able to find work? How will I provide food, clothing, and health coverage for my family? When will the job market get better, so I can find a job? At what age will I be able to retire? Our lives are constantly filled with questions.the answers that we give can change the direction of our lives and the lives of our families. If we could only be as certain in our answers as was John the Baptist, when he was asked in today s Gospel, What should I do? Our answers to life s important questions are usually given with some, if not a lot, of anxiety. But John, filled with the Holy Spirit, answered very readily and boldly by telling the people to treat everyone fairly, honestly, with respect and care. He was telling the people to prepare to welcome the Lord in their midst by welcoming each other in care and friendship. He challenged them to give up selfish and self-centered ways that only resulted in their lives being lived in competition against each other, only raising their anxiety levels and levels of competition. What should we do to prepare for the coming of Christ? We should listen to the words of John the Baptist and welcome one another in care and friendship as if we were welcoming the Lord himself, because we are welcoming the Lord, who makes his dwelling not only among us, but in each of our hearts. Decorate the Luminaries and return them after Mass to a Men s Club member no later than December 22nd. The cost is only $3 each, or 2 for $5. Proceeds go to the OLL Food Pantry.

Treat yourself, your family and your friends (while the supply lasts). Taizé prayer is an ecumenical form of prayer modeled after the Taizé community founded in the 1940's by Br.

You can decorate them with the names of family members or friends, or special dates in your life. The Luminary Candles will line the back wall inside the Church at the Christmas Eve Masses. The Women s Guild is having their Christmas Bake Sale after all of the Masses this weekend. This is the perfect time to stock up on some tasty gifts. Maybe even a little something for yourself. He preached and prayed before the scene. His biographer, Thomas of Celano, says that in that moment Francis was overwhelmed with love and filled with wonderful happiness. His contemplation of Jesus, the Word made flesh, drew him to experience the depth of God s love. We live in a troubled world beset by wars, violence, injustice, broken relationships, and illness. Beyond that, we do believe and are convinced that God loves us and walks with us in Jesus, his Son. As we know, God will heal us and our broken world and bring us into the fullness of life. It is my hope that when you pray before the mystery of the Incarnate Word, as Saint Francis prayed, you will be renewed in hope and confidence and be overwhelmed with love and filled with wonderful happiness. May God bless you with a renewal of faith, hope, and love as we celebrate the birth of the Lord.
