2 OUR LADY OF LORETTO HOMETOWN PAGE 2 First Sunday of Advent THE ADVENT SEASON Dear Parish Family of Our Lady of Loretto, In this time of winter, days are short and nights are long. We need the Light of Christ. We need Christ's warmth and love and joy. And so, we begin our Advent preparation by gathering around the Advent Wreath, hoping that the Light of Christ will bring warmth, peace, and security to our world. But, unless we allow the Spirit of the Lord to guide us and speak through us as prophets of hope there will be no light. Beginning the Church's liturgical year, Advent (from, "ad-venire" in Latin or "to come to") is the season encompassing the four Sundays (and weekdays) leading up to the celebration of Christmas. The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ s second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lord s birth on Christmas. The final days of Advent, from December 17 to December 24, focus particularly on our preparation for the celebrations of the Nativity of our Lord (Christmas). Just as the light of faith burnt-within the hearts of God's prophets, we too must let the light of faith burn within our hearts, while enflaming us to speak Christ s message of hope to a world in darkness. Like the prophet Isaiah, we must instruct the world around us how to walk in the light of the Lord. As the phrase implies it is through our actions of walking with the poor, the sick, the lonely, and anyone in need of any kind, that the understanding, care, and love we bring them is Christ s light. And, at the same time we show the world what it means to walk in the Light of Christ. With Christmas each day literally starts to get a few minutes longer and brighter until Easter, when we rejoice fully in the light of the Risen Lord, and also our days being brighter, lighter, and warmer. This seasonal change takes place slowly and gradually, minute by minute. And, it only takes us a few minutes each day to bring light to someone whose life is filled with too much darkness. Sincerely, THE ADVENT BOOK CLUB An Advent Book Club is in the making for Our Lady of Loretto and St. Germaine parishioners. The title of our first book is Biggest Lie In The History of Christianity, authored by Matthew Kelly. If you are interested, the first session begins Tuesday, December 4th, at Our Lady of Loretto rectory at 6:30PM. Sessions will be offered at St. Germaine parish as well on Wednesdays beginning, December 5th. You are welcome to attend which ever session is more convenient. For those who must, an afternoon session is being offered on Tuesdays or/and Wednesdays as well at 1:00PM (The location for that session is yet to be determined). Please call the OLL Rectory at to reserve your book/seat. PARISH CONSULTATION MEETING Please be informed that the Priests Placement Board has scheduled a Parish Consultation Meeting for Our Lady of Loretto and St. Germaine parishes for Monday, December 17th at 7:00PM at St. Germaine Church (9711 S.
