3 Affirmation of faith (9:30) The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. 7 WORLD MISSIONS SPOTLIGHT: AMANI YA JUU AND AMANI YA JUU IN CHATTANOOGA In 1996, LMPC-supported missionary Becky Chinchen founded Amani ya Juu, which means Peace from Above. Amani Ya Juu exists to facilitate whole-life peace in the lives of its team members by operating as a self-sustaining business community working in devotion to God. They employ women who use beautiful African materials to create high quality fair trade home goods and accessories. While Amani s production remains based in Africa, since 2012 Peter and Joanna (Chinchen) Vaughn have been working to establish Amani s U.S.-based distribution warehouse and store here in Chattanooga. Amani Chattanooga plays a crucial role in the operational sustainability of the African centers. Sales from Amani Chattanooga sustain one-third of the approximately 120 families supported through the ladies work at Amani. The U.S. also has the greatest potential for growth, so with God s blessing the Chattanooga center will be able to provide an ever-increasing demand for the product of the African Centers, enabling them to expand their ministry. Pete and Joanna also have a heart for ministering to the materially poor here in Chattanooga. Amani Chattanooga is located strategically for engaging with struggling communities, and developing relationships within their East Chattanooga neighborhood has been important. Amani Chattanooga actively seeks to help those with obstacles to employment through intentional hiring practices and Christ-centered job training. As the center grows, their goal is to hire from a diverse cross-section of Chattanooga s demographics, attracting visitors to an area of Chattanooga with a vibrancy and personality that is truly unique. The Vaughns are longtime members of LMPC, and they, along with their four children, will be a part of our 2018 World Missions Conference, Africa: Continent of Contrasts, March AFRICA MISSIONS OPPORTUNITY: SOUTH SUDAN Ophthalmologists, optometrists, and nurses, along with committed volunteers, are needed for an upcoming trip to South Sudan, April 20-May 2, If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact Jim Sutherland at
