The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. All: He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Affirmation of the authority of Scripture Leader: What we call Holy Scripture, or the written Word of God, includes all the books of the Old and New Testaments. The books commonly called the Apocrypha, because they are not divinely inspired, are not part of the canon of Scripture, and therefore have no authority in the church of God. All: The authority of Holy Scripture does not depend upon the testimony of any man or church, but entirely upon God, its author (who is truth himself). We therefore should receive it because it is the Word of God. Leader: The Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him. 5 Assurance of God s pardoning grace based on Colossians 1 Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
