2 Order of Worship * Welcome and greetings Ben Hooper, pastoral intern * Call to worship taken from Psalm 27 and Psalm 89 Leader: The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid? All: Leader: All: Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident. I will sing of the Lord s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. * Hymn of praise Our Great God Eternal God, unchanging, mysterious and unknown; your boundless love unfailing, in grace and mercy shown; bright seraphim in endless flight around your glorious throne, they raise their voices day and night in praise to you alone. Refrain: Hallelujah! Glory be to our great God! Hallelujah! Glory be to our great God! Lord, we are weak and frail, helpless in the storm; surround us with your angels, hold us in your arms; our cold and ruthless enemy, his pleasure is our harm, rise up, O Lord, and he will flee before our sovereign God. Refrain Let every creature in the sea and every flying bird; let every mountain, every field and valley of the earth; let all the moons and all the stars in all the universe sing praises to the living God, who rules them by his Word. Refrain text and music by Fernando Ortega and Mac Powell 2002 Word Music, LLC, ARR, ICS, UBP, CCLI Lic.# * Prayer of adoration Ministry report

3 Call to confession Psalm 32:1-6a Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found. Silent prayers of confession Assurance of God s pardoning grace taken from Titus 3:4-7 When the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. * Hymn of assurance I Have a Shelter (please turn page for words and music) Worship in the giving of God s tithe and our offerings Offertory hymn Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah Guide me, O thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land. I am weak, but thou art mighty; hold me with thy pow rful hand. Bread of heaven, feed me now and evermore, bread of heaven, feed me now and evermore. Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing waters flow. Let the fiery cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through. Strong Deliverer, be thou still my strength and shield; strong Deliverer, be thou still my strength and shield. When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside. Death of death, and hell s destruction, land me safe on Canaan s side. Songs of praises I will ever give to thee; songs of praises I will ever give to thee. text by William Williams, 1745

4 * Scripture reading from Mark 13:14-23, Tabitha Kapic (9:30) text printed in the bulletin Eric Beveridge (11:00) This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Prayer of preparation for the study of God s Word Sermon Pastoral prayer The Temple s Destruction and Us Brian Salter, lead pastor * Hymn of response How Firm a Foundation * Benediction * Doxology * Postlude How firm a foundation, you saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in his excellent Word! What more can he say than to you he has said, to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled? When through fiery trials your pathway shall lie, my grace, all-sufficient, shall be your supply; the flame shall not hurt you; I only design your dross to consume and your gold to refine. The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose, I will not, I will not desert to his foes; that soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, I ll never, no never, no never forsake. text from Rippon s Selection of Hymns, 1787 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. * Congregation standing as you are able

6 Mark 13:14-23, When you see the abomination that causes desolation standing where it does not belong let the reader understand then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 Let no one on the roof of his house go down or enter the house to take anything out. 16 Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. 17 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 18 Pray that this will not take place in winter, 19 because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world, until now and never to be equaled again. 20 If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them. 21 At that time if anyone says to you, Look, here is the Christ! or, Look, there he is! do not believe it. 22 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect if that were possible. 23 So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time. 28 Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door. 30 I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
