6 Into the Word Soli Deo Gloria To God Alone Be The Glory Psalm 115; 1 Cor. 10:22-33 Introduction: The Reformation has had a profound impact which we will be talking about in the coming weeks. Center of debate in Reformation was over justification, salvation and the issue of grace. Why did I believe the gospel while others reject it? 1) What is Your World View? What role do you play, what role does God play in salvation? Do you have a God-centered view of theology or Man-centered? Anthropocentric view has man at the top of the heap. We see the impact of such a view in controversies in the church today. 2) Where Does Salvation Come From? I am able to confess Jesus is Lord, because of the Spirit working within me. God planted, nourished the seed of faith. Faith does not come from within, but comes from God. Hence, every aspect of our salvation comes from God, and therefore we can say with integrity, To God alone be the glory! Conclusion: It all comes from God. Faith, your capacity to believe, your ability to respond to the gospel. Perhaps you too need to say yes to God today. He wants to give you the capacity to do so and to help you grow. Soli Deo Gloria. So the Word can get into you!

7 Drilling down Soli Deo Gloria 1. Consider this summary of the five Sola s : Sola Fide, by faith alone Sola Scriptura, by scripture alone Solus Christus, by Christ alone Sola Gratia, by grace alone us. Soli Deo Gloria, glory to God Alone Not by works. No other ultimate authority. No other mediators Not grace plus some from God s sole initiative. How does it make you feel that you cannot contribute to your salvation? 2. Consider the two images below. Why is an anthropological view of theology problematic? 3. Get to know the glory of God. Study it; study your own soul. Come to know the glories you are seduced by. 4. Why are your treasures not God s glory? Set your heart on the glory of Christ, the image of God revealed in you. So the Word can be applied
