I. A Month of Re-Membering: All Saints, All Souls, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Feast of Christ the King are about remembering. Note that in the Jewish Scriptures, there was a golden thread of remembering, in order to keep alive the memory of spiritual ancestors, communal trials and trauma, and moments of peace and prosperity. If our faith is to grow, it is imperative we remember what God has done for us individually and through our family of faith; we, too, recall the ebb and flow of sin and grace, darkness and light in our own lives. Let us not forget, despite it all, how God has blessed us beyond measure. To remember is to celebrate God's faithfulness with gratitude! Eucharist is our chief way to express thankfulness! November, welcome! II. Voting Privilege and Responsibility: Election day this Tuesday calls Catholics to place an informed vote. Look at all the issues, and there are many! You may wish to consult the US Bishops guide for voting, In a time where people around our globe are dying for the right to vote, I find it lamentable that less than 50% of US citizens will take advantage of this right and responsibility. Please exercise your privilege to make an informed vote! V. Festival of Faith: Note the Tour of Faith Homes (sponsored by the Owensboro Area Faith Communities and The Owensboro-Daviess Co. Ministerial Association) on Sunday, November 6th, 2 4PM: Islamic Center of Owensboro, 3131 Alvey Park Dr. W.; Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3290 Highway 60 E.; Rieyuki Buddhists Earthbased Traditions, hosted by UUCO, Corner of Cedar St. and Parish Ave.; Wednesday, November 9th, an Open House & AARTI at Tri-State Hindu Temple, 6044 Van Rd., Newburgh, Indiana (introduction to Hinduism and Aarti, 6 8 PM. There are more events! Pick up a brochure at the doors of church or consult the following website, 9:00AM MASS Altar Servers: Natalie Ellis, Andrew Ellis, Clayton Lewis Lectors: Christine Ellis, Alison Parson Minister of the Host: Ben Rhodes, Kelsey Rhodes, Wilma Stallings Minister of the Cup: Carl Lewis, Claire Lewis, Kimberly Lewis, Sr. Consolata Ojemeh Minister of Hospitality: Lloyd Nash, Mary Helen Nash, Mark Osborne, Todd Ray, Elmo Thompson, Frank Wathen 11:00AM MASS Altar Servers: Alice Palmer, Iona Palmer Lectors: Roby Abney, Mike Weafer Minister of the Host: John Calhoun, Joan Perry, Brooklyn Reynolds Minister of the Cup: Kate Abney, Ed Cecil, Peggy Clark, Jenny Likens Minister of Hospitality: Bo Ivey, Jim Ivey, Janie Moseley, Katherine Moseley, Darcy Purk, Ray Purk III. Disciples Response Fund Update: I am inspired by your generous support of this year's Disciples Response Fund Appeal. Because of your generosity we have surpassed our parish goal of $23, To date, we have received 211 pledges representing over $48, Of that amount, $33, have already been paid. For every dollar raised over our goal, our parish receive 50% of those dollars in the form of a rebate. Most importantly, our donations help fund the many good works of the Diocese of Owensboro throughout Western Kentucky including seminary education, Gasper River youth camp programs, support for the poor and homeless, grants available to parishes, and more. May God bless you for your generous offerings of pledges and prayers for the DRF appeal. Thank you! You are greatly appreciated! IV. Theology of Stewardship is about being a disciple who realizes how we have been blessed; once we realize what God has done for us through Jesus Christ, we want to giveback. You will receive Stewardship materials in the mail before this week vanishes. Time (how do you spend the 168 hours each week), Talent (everyone has some gift to share), and Treasure (it's about the principle behind the story of the widow's mite in Mark 12:38-44). Your checkbook is a theological document; it tells you who and what you worship (Billy Graham). On behalf of this faith community, I ask you every registered family to make a commitment to our Saint Stephen Cathedral community for the 2017 calendar year. Our annual Stewardship Commitment officially begins this weekend, Nov. 5-6, and will conclude Nov. 24, Thanksgiving Day. No One Ever Becomes Poor by Giving (Anne Frank). Again, it s not the amount as much as the sacrifice which so many of you make. Thank you! In Joy and Hope, Fr. Jerry

DISCIPLESHIP REFLECTIONS A Message from Father Jerry Riney Take a few moments to notice the many wonderful facets of St. Stephen Cathedral Parish. We are blessed with reverent liturgies enhanced by sacred music; a wide variety of ministries and spiritual opportunities (there s something for almost everyone!); a beautiful, historic cathedral; a tradition of outreach to our community; and much more. These are made possible due to the continued generosity of our parishioners in both financial support and volunteer service in ministry. Time, Talent, and Treasure renewal packets will be mailed to parishioners this week; I humbly ask for your prayers and participation. When you receive the packet, please take time to do the following: Giving. Reflect on your blessings and pray to discern an appropriate, proportionate level of annual financial support to our parish; then complete the treasure portion of the pledge form. Serving. Review the ministries brochure, which contains information about our parish ministries and spiritual enrichment opportunities. Then discern prayerfully how you and your family members can offer your time and talents, and complete the ministry portion of the pledge form. Ministry selections for all family members may be included on the same form. Whether you are a new volunteer, continuing your current involvement, or changing your ministry selections, please complete and return a pledge form; this will help us keep our records current. Kindly return your pledge form by Thanksgiving (November 24) in the Offertory collection at Mass or by mail. Praying. Whatever your level of financial support and service in ministry, please join me in praying for our parish and the success of our Time, Talent, and Treasure renewal. Let us pray that we receive His gifts gratefully and share them responsibly. God bless our St. Stephen Cathedral faith community! If you have questions, please call the Parish Office at. Extra Time, Talent, and Treasure packets are available in the vestibule or Parish Office. Praying. Giving. Serving. As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God s varied grace. ~ 1 Peter 4:10

THIS WEEK S WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES We are pleased to wish those couples celebrating their Wedding Anniversary a very happy and blessed day. November 8 Daniel and Debbie Van Bussum, 47 years November 8 Bill and Kathy West, 35 years November 12 Eric and Lisa Kyle, 22 years Jubilee Year of Mercy One of the most moving images of Pope Francis ministry comes from Holy Thursday. Slowly, deliberately, Francis kneels down before prisoners men, women, young, old, Christian, Muslim and washes their feet, recalling Jesus admonition to Peter: If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another s feet (John 13:14). On today s Jubilee for Prisoners, whose rights the Church bids us advocate, Jesus declares in the Gospel, to [God] all are alive (Luke 20:38). Have we imprisoned anyone figuratively, but no less painfully, passing harsh judgment, then refusing our respect, acceptance, even affection? This month of All Saints and All Souls bids us reflect on our eternal destiny and prepare for it. Respect for ourselves and others, souls and bodies, practical care for neighbors and strangers: such witness affirms that we view our present in light of our future, and believe that, even now, in our midst, stands the Lord of life, the living Jesus.
