Tom Ed and Robin Booth Family In the glorious assembly of the saints, God has wished to reserve the first place for the Mother of the Incarnate Word. St. John Paul II I. Remembering Our Deceased Loved Ones: The day after All Saints Day, we pause to remember our loved ones who have died. Many people will flock to cemeteries around our city, state, country, and world to honor and pray for loved ones who have died. At 6:00PM on Monday, November 2, All Souls Day, you are invited to remember, pray for, and honor your loved ones who have died; a reception will follow. II. AWOL Voters: It is predicted that less than 30% of Kentuckians will exercise their right to vote on Tuesday, November 2. Sad! Exercising our right to vote, if nothing else, validates the human sacrifices of past patriots. Since childhood, I have been taught that I have the duty, as a citizen of the U.S. and as a member of the Catholic Church. Show up this Tuesday! Place an informed vote! III. Hanging Out with Bartimaeus: I challenged you last weekend to spend time with Bartimaeus (Mk. 10:46-52), whom Jesus asked: What do you want me to do for you? Am I aware of my blind spots? SELFISHNESS blinds me to the needs of others; INSENSITIVITY blinds me to the harm I'm causing others; SNOBBERY blinds me to the equal dignity of others; PRIDE blinds me to my own faults; PREJUDICE blinds me to the truth; HURRY blinds me to the beauty of the world around me; MATERIALISM blinds me to spiritual values. IV. The Right to Life Banquet last month was well done. A young 12-year-old girl shared her gratitude to her birth mother for placing her into a loving home with loving parents. A mother of two, who was present with her husband, shared tearfully, via video (thanks to Fr. Josh McCarty and Lolek Productions) how she had had an abortion when she was 16 years-old because she thought she had no choice. The mother of Tim Tebow spoke inspiringly of her difficult pregnancy and how her decision not to abort has blessed her and her family. I couldn t help but notice that two-thirds of the leadership in Owensboro Right to Life are Catholic! V. Two Opportunities I Hope To Attend This Week: PASTOR S CORNER Catholic Pioneers: From Maryland to Kentucky, Tuesday, November 3, at Mount St. Joseph, presented by Sr. George Mary Hagan, OSU, beginning with dinner at 5:00PM; talk finished by 6:30PM. Vatican II: 50 Years Later, Wednesday, November 4, at Brescia University, 6:30-8:00PM. In Joy and Hope, Fr. Jerry

WORD OF LIFE The family founded on marriage is truly the sanctuary of life, the place in which life, the gift of God, can be properly welcomed and protected against the many attacks to which it is exposed, and can develop in accordance with what constitutes authentic human growth. Its role in promoting and building the culture of life against the possibility of a destructive anticivilization, as so many present trends and situations confirm, is decisive and irreplaceable. Goetz *************************************************************************************************** Sat 9:00AM Leo Schemmel *************************************************************************************************** EUCHARISTIC MEDITATION How do we experience the Eucharist? When we go to Sunday Mass, how to we live it? Is it only a moment of celebration, an established tradition, an opportunity to find oneself or to feel justified, or is it something more? A valuable indication comes to us from the relationship between the Eucharistic Celebration and the life of our Christian communities. We must always bear in mind that the Eucharist is not something we make; it is not our own commemoration of what Jesus said and did. No. It is precisely an act of Christ! It is Christ who acts there, who is on the altar. It is a gift of Christ, who makes himself present and gathers us around him, to nourish us with his Word and with his life. Christ wishes to enter into our life and permeate it with his grace, so that in every Christian community there may be coherence between liturgy and life. The heart fills with trust and hope by pondering on Jesus words recounted in the Gospel: he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day (Jn 6:54). Let us live the Eucharist with the spirit of faith, of prayer, of forgiveness, of repentance, of communal joy, of concern for the needy and for the needs of so many brothers and sisters, in the certainty that the Lord will fulfil what he has promised us: eternal life. So be it! Pope Francis, General Audience, February 12, 2014 Courtesy of V.I.S. - Vatican Information Service A VOCATION VISTA All of us benefit from remembering our past. A people which remembers does not repeat past errors; instead, it looks with confidence to the challenges of the present and the future. Remembrance saves a people s soul from whatever or whoever would attempt to dominate it or to use it for their own interests. If we look at its bold beauty, we are frightened, but if we disregard its courageous tenacity, we are lost. No relationship of love, no friendship, no form of loving, no happiness in the common good, reaches the height of our desire and of our hope, if this miracle does not come to dwell in the soul. No other school can teach the truth of love, if the family does not do it. No law can impose the beauty and legacy of this treasure of human dignity, if the personal bond between love and procreation is not inscribed in our flesh. Brothers and sisters, it is necessary to restore social honor to the fidelity of love: restore social honor to the fidelity of love! It is necessary to remove from concealment the daily miracle of millions of men and women who repristinate (restore to an original state) its foundation in the family, of which every society lives, without being able to guarantee it in any other way. It is no accident that this principle of fidelity to the promise of love and of life is written in God s creation as a perennial blessing, to which the world is entrusted.
