On the first Sunday of Lent, we were invited into the DESERT to embrace our demons and know that God's Grace is sufficient. Notice Jesus confronted each temptation with Words of Scripture! On the second Sunday of Lent, we were invited up the MOUNTAIN, Mount Tabor, to get a glimpse of Jesus divinity. Our mountaintop experiences will support and fortify us during tough times in the valley, where life is lived. The FIG TREE, on the third Sunday of Lent, represents us. The gardener begs that the fruitless fig tree be given another chance before it is cut down. What do I need to do to bear good fruit? This fourth Sunday of Lent (Luke 15:1-3, 11-32) embraces a theme consistent with this Jubilee Year of Mercy. The parable of the prodigal son (or perhaps better put, the extravagant father ) appears only in the gospel according to Luke. The wasteful son s gold and disrespectful request one third of the father s property before he is deceased is shocking for its content and for the father s response. Even when we abuse our freedom, wander far from the ways of God, we can be restored and forgiven. II. Anointing of the Sick is a wonderful Sacrament which strengthens us in times of sickness, surgery, and dealing with the limitations of aging. Be aware that some people may need transportation for our communal Anointing this Wednesday, March 9 at the noon Mass, to be followed by a light lunch. III. A Huge Note of Gratitude to Eddie O'Bryan, who has kept the church spotless for the last 18 months. Eddie volunteered as a "interim" cleaner of our church building until we could find someone. On February 22, Jeff Payne joined our parish staff in becoming the Director of Maintenance. Though part-time, Jeff is a talented and much needed person. Welcome to Jeff Payne, and a million thanks to Eddie O'Bryan for helping the parish "in a pinch", a long pinch! IV. Welcome to Fr. Jason McClure who will celebrate the 9:00 & 11:00 Masses on March 13. The SEC Tournament is a tradition in my family for the past 15 years. So, I will be away from the parish March We hope UK is ready to play! BTW Fr. Suneesh loves peanuts, even chocolate covered peanuts! V. FISH FRY on Friday, March 11th in the Community Center from 5 to 7 p.m. See you there! Whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 In Joy and Hope, Fr. Jerry

Diocesan Hands of Mercy Project This year, for our celebration of Chrism Mass, the Diocese of Owensboro would like to incorporate the Year of Mercy into plans for the liturgical environment. They are inviting the people of our diocese to spend a little time talking and thinking about the Works of Mercy and then creating an outline of their own hand (or use the template found at all entrances) and recording on it a work of mercy they have done or will soon perform. Those hands will then be used to help in creating the environment for Chrism Mass. The Hands of Mercy can be turned in at the parish office this week, returned to Donna Murphy or dropped into the collection basket. Thank you. A SUNDAY FOR REJOICING Today s Gospel story of the prodigal son is a favorite of many. We can identify with all the major figures and their crisscross of emotions. The father s initial grief over his young son s avarice is turned to relief at his return. The son s grief over his loss of fortune, family, and friends is turned to delirious joy at the sight of his father. We understand the eldest son s bewilderment over his father s generosity. For the older son, virtue seems not to be its own reward. For all his honorable toil and loyalty, there seems to be no celebration. The father, however, is prodigal in his forgiveness and mercy. He expects the same generosity from his older son. He wants all to rejoice when the lost one is found. This is a Sunday for rejoicing. It s time to pause, consider, and encourage one another. We are the prodigal children heading home. We are the elder siblings waiting with the eager Father, who scans the horizon. In Christ Jesus we are reconciled to the Father and one another. In his death and resurrection we have passed over. We are a new creation. In this we rejoice. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. THE KEY TO SUSTAINABILITY Every man over 18 is welcome! Join anytime!
