Parish Fish Fry: Everyone is invited to our Fish Fry on Friday, March 27, serving from 5:00-7:30PM. Come early, eat, and pray the Stations of the Cross devotion at 6:00PM. Or, plan to reflect on the last hours of Jesus life by praying the Stations of the Cross, then enjoy fish and fellowship afterwards. Contact Laurie Hicks, our friendly Fish Fry coordinator, if you can assist. II. Good Samaritan Concert Series to benefit St. Benedict Shelter for Homeless Men, Boulware Mission, Owensboro Help Office, and Settle Memorial s Good Samaritan Fund, will kick off on Sunday, March 29, at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 East Fourth Street, at 4:00PM. It s purpose is to raise awareness for people working hard in our area to help homelessness. Maestro Nicholas Palmer is conductor of the performance. The concert will feature the Owensboro Symphony Chamber Orchestra, as well as a 175-voice choir, comprised of six church choirs. This 75-minute concert is free and open to the public; an offering will be taken to help the above ministries and a reception will follow. I invite SSC parishioners to support this creative outreach. III. Communal Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated on Palm Sunday, March 29, at 2:00PM. I urge you to take advantage of this healing Sacrament. Forgiveness is good for the soul, and absolutely necessary if we are to grow spiritually. We are grateful to have 12 priests available as confessors. Other opportunities for confession are: March 22, 1:00PM, at St. Mary Magdalene; March 23, 6:00PM, at Immaculate; March 23, 6:30PM, at Sts. Joseph and Paul; March 24, 6:00PM, St. Peter Alcantara. Please take advantage of these ample opportunities before the Triduum (Holy Thursday/Good Friday/Easter vigil). IV. Mary, the Mother of God video will be shown on Wednesday, March 25, the feast of the Annunciation of the Lord, at 6:00PM in the Community Center. Through the angel Gabriel, the Spirit of God comes to Mary in the most unfeasible way, asking the impossible. As a young woman engaged to be married, being found pregnant would have meant her death in the culture of the time. She risks hurting Joseph, bringing shame on their families, and setting herself up for execution because she is sure of one thing: God calls her to be mother to the Son of God. Mary is special because her faith is stronger than her fear. You are invited to view this video on this special feast. V. Academic Accountability: I will visit OCHS on Wednesday of this week to hand out report cards to St. Stephen Cathedral students. Our parish gladly invests a good portion of our budget for the Catholic education of these students; in fact, each student receives $2225 of his/her tuition from our parish. The goal of Catholic education is to educate the whole person, including the formation of faith. If you have not received a voucher, you are asked to make an appointment with Fr. Jerry. In Joy and Hope, Fr. Jerry

In fact, being assumed into heaven she has not laid aside this office of salvation but by her manifold intercession she continues to obtain for us the graces of eternal salvation. By her maternal charity, she takes care of the brethren of her Son who still journey on earth surrounded by dangers and difficulties, until they are led into their blessed home. ~ Vatican II A CALL TO FOLLOW In today s Gospel, Jesus is very direct in calling us to follow him unreservedly; to give ourselves totally to him as he gave himself totally for us. The call to the priesthood and religious life is a choice to die to oneself and give oneself completely to God. It is a call to follow Jesus in a more radical way. For more information or for questions about discerning a vocation to priesthood, contact the vocations office: jason.mcclure@pastoral.org or

The words with which the Lord announces his end, now near, speak of glory: The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified... Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say?... Father, glorify thy name (Jn 12:23, 27-28). And finally he utters the words which express so deeply the mystery of his redeeming death: Now is the judgment of this world... And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself (Jn 12:31-32). That lifting up of Christ from the earth is prior to his elevation in glory: lifting up on the wood of the cross, lifting up in martyrdom, lifting up in death. His death is the pledge of life, it is the source of life for us all. The eternal Father preordained this death in the order of grace and salvation, just as, in the order of nature, the death of the grain of wheat under the earth is established so that there may spring from it the ear bearing abundant fruit. Man is then nourished by this fruit, which becomes daily bread. Also the sacrifice which was accomplished in the death of Christ became food for our souls under the appearances of bread. Let us live this life nourishing ourselves with the food of the Body and the Blood of the Redeemer, let us grow in it to reach eternal life. The prayer of grandparents and the elderly is a great gift for the Church. It is a great injection of wisdom for all society, especially for those who are too busy, too encumbered, too distracted. Someone has to sing the signs of God for these people too, to proclaim the signs of God.
