2 SHRULE COMMUNITY CENTRE MEETING 27 th JUNE 2018 A meeting concerning the future of Shrule Community Centre was held during the week regarding the future of the hall. I would like to express a sincere word of thanks to all who attended especially with the fine weather and so many busy with other things from matches to the bog. Despite this, a large number was at the meeting. The first item on the agenda were the results of the survey which indicated strong support to keep the centre open as well as suggestions regarding activities people would like to see been held in the hall. I would like to express my thanks to all who completed the forms, those who help to carry out the survey, and the steering group. A special word of thanks to the steering group who not only made the presentation but also compiled the information in chart and graph form so it can be easily understood. The results of the survey are now in the Post Office on display, and the steering group would encourage people to study the results at their own pace. A decision was made, and support for the establishment of a new committee, and the steering group will now begin to explore the formation of a new committee. The next item to be dealt with at the meeting was an outline of the various roles and responsibilities if a new committee is formed such as a chairperson, treasurer and secretary. It is hoped to structure a new committee as follows: 1. Community Representatives 2. Local Interest Groups 3. People of expertise beneficial to management of centre. The current proposed areas that the community representatives will come from are: 1. Shrule Village/Churchfields. 2. Dalgan. 3. St. Mary s Rd/Brodella 4. Ramolin/Kilmaine Rd. 5. Wakefield/Joyce s Park/Laragan The steering group is inviting those who may be interested in representing their area to let Fr. Vivian know. Also, if there are any other suggestions regarding community representatives, please let Fr. Vivian know. The areas will be discussed further at the next meeting. A community representative may the committee/company at a later date. The second part of the committee will be made up of local community groups that would have an interest in the centre and use it activities such as groups that have meetings in the hall or groups that currently use or may use the hall in future for a particular activity e.g. GAA The third part of the committee will be people of expertise that would be of the management and running of the hall, such as an accountant or person good at organising. It is important to note that any volunteer on the committee will also be a director of the company that will need to be formed so the committee may avail of grants/funding and lease the hall from Galway Diocesan Trustees. Secondly, the new company will only be involved in applications regarding the community centre. This is necessary to avoid any issues arising later. The third part of the meeting focused on the insolvency of the Shrule Glencorrib Development Company, which was the company that managed the community centre over the past few years. It was necessary to do this to reassure people that any new committee/company is not responsible for the insolvency. It is important to acknowledge from the start that all those involved in this project do so for the benefit of the whole community, and that in dealing with this matter, it is essential people be respectful with each other. The history of the company was outlined so far as possible with dated facts that were provided to Fr. Vivian over the past year. In presenting the facts, it is clear that fundamentals regarding the LEADER application process were not followed. It was also clear that those involved, both directors and contractor undertook the renovation of the hall for the benefit of the wider community and 3 directors exposed themselves financially by providing personal monies to cover fundraising requirements and undertaking to personal guarantee the required bridging loan to complete work on the center. Unfortunately, at the conclusion of the renovations, monies were still owed to the contractor by Shrule Glencorrib Development Company. It was stated that the new committee/company could not directly be involved in this matter as to do so would imply the new committee/company are accepting responsibility for any monies owned as the issue of insolvency is a matter for the directors and contractor to resolve & the community will be supportive to directors & contractor in resolving this matter.

4 HEAVEN I was shocked, confused, bewildered, As I entered heaven s door, Not by the beauty of it all, Nor the lights or its décor. But it was the folks in Heaven Who made me sputter and gasp, The thieves, the liars, the sinners, The alcoholics and the trash. There stood the kid from the seventh grade Who swiped my lunch money twice, Next to him was my old neighbour Who never said anything nice. Herb, who I always thought Was rotting away in hell, Was sitting pretty on cloud nine, Looking incredibly well. I nudged Jesus, What s the deal? I would love to hear your take. How d all these sinners get up here? God must have made a mistake. And why s everyone so quiet, So sombre give me a clue Hush, child, He said, they re all in shock, No-one thought they d be seeing you! JUDGE NOT TEN THINGS GOD WON'T ASK God won't ask what kind of car you drove. He'll ask how carefully you drove and many people you drove who didn't have transportation. 2...God won't ask the square footage of your house. He'll ask how many people you welcomed into your home. 3...God won't ask about the clothes you had in your closet. He'll ask how many you helped to clothe. 4...God won't ask what your highest salary was. He'll ask if you compromised your character to obtain it. 5...God won't ask what your job title was. He'll ask if you performed your job to the best of your ability. 6...God won't ask how many friends you had. He'll ask how many people to whom you were a friend. 7...God won't ask in what neighbourhood you lived. He'll ask how you treated your neighbours. 8...God won't ask about the colour of your skin. He'll ask about the content of your character. 9...God won't ask why it took you so long to seek Salvation. He'll lovingly take you to your mansion in heaven God won't ask what you achieved. Just did you do your Best! SHRULE VILLAGE ENHANCEMENT ANNUAL ENVELOPE COLLECTION: The past year has been a busy year for our committee with a lot of improvements made throughout the village and you will agree that the village looks in splendid condition at present. From the erection of Christmas lights, enhancement of the pound area, installation of hanging baskets on bridge, additional flower boxes, in addition to everyday ongoing maintenance and planting, improvements have been made throughout the village. All of above costs money and as we do not receive any monies from our local authority we depend on the goodwill and generosity of our local community to help maintain our village. To help us achieve our plans we are seeking a voluntary donation if one so wishes. Envelopes will be distributed by our volunteers to households in the area in the coming weeks. If you would like to give a donation the envelope can be returned to Shrule PO or directly to any committee member. Again thanks for your support to date which is greatly appreciated. SHRULE VILLAGE ENHANCEMENT: As judging in the National Tidy Towns Competition has now started the ongoing works continue in Shrule Village as usual each Tuesday. Next Tuesday evening July 10 th the plan is to tackle the Dalgan Road, to get this approach road tidied up all the way down as far as the Community Pitch. We need as many helpers as possible with strimmers especially to cut back some long grass and briars - a hoe and sweeping brush will also be most welcome. If anyone can help out please meet at Shrule Community Centre at 7pm on Tuesday evening. Many hands make light work. Thank you. BORD NA N-ÓG UPDATE: Like Mayo this week, our U14s had their interest ended in the championship by a strong Bonniconlon side on Thursday evening. Our U12s also unfortunately suffered defeat on Friday night. With the holidays and fine weather we continue to be impressed by the numbers attending training on Wednesday evenings. The level of interest promises a bright future. Again we are also appreciative of the sacrifices made by parents and guardians. He was excited about the award and so boarded a plane to the venue. However, two hours after the plane took off, it made an emergency landing at the nearest airport due to a technical problem. Afraid that he would not make it in time to the conference, he immediately went to the reception to make enquiries. He found out that he would have to wait ten hours for the next flight to his destination! He rented a car and drove himself to the conference city which was four hours away. Soon after he left, the weather changed and a heavy storm began. The downpour made it difficult for him to see so he missed a turn he was supposed to take. Driving in the heavy rain on a deserted road, feeling hungry and tired, he frantically began to look for any sign of civilization. He came across a small tattered house and knocked on the door. A beautiful lady opened the door. He explained his situation and wanted to use the lady s telephone but she had no telephone. She however asked him to come inside and wait till the weather improved. The doctor who was hungry and exhausted accepted the offer. The lady offered him something to eat and drink. She asked him to join her in prayers but he declined. According to him, he believed in hard work, not in prayers! Sitting at the table and sipping his tea, the doctor watched the woman pray many times beside a baby s crib. Feeling that the woman might be in need of help, the doctor asked her what exactly she needed from God and asked if God ever listened to her prayers. When he inquired of the child in the crib, the woman explained that her son was down with cancer. And they had been advised to see a doctor named Abraham who could cure him but she did not have enough money to afford his fees. She said that God had not yet answered her prayers but said that God would create some way out one day. She added that she would not allow her fears to overcome her faith! Stunned and speechless, Dr. Abraham began to weep! He was forced to say out loud, GOD IS GREAT and recollected to the woman, all the sequence of bad events: malfunction on the plane, a thunderstorm and how he lost his way. All of which had happened because God answers prayers, wanted to give him a chance to come out of his bondage of materialistic career pursuit and give some time to a poor, helpless woman who had nothing but rich prayers! Oh! What a God! God may not answer your prayers YOUR WAY but he will always answer HIS way. Behind the scenes, he will move men, the weather, events, circumstances, etc. in order to work out the best for you! Do not stop trusting! Do not stop hoping! God is busy planning your dancing this year! Hold on! Hold out! Look up daily!

7 A LITTLE BIT OF HUMOUR My mind is like my internet browser. At least 19 open tabs. 3 of them frozen. And I have no clue where the music is coming from. *** QUOTE: Always borrow money from a pessimist as he won t expect it back. *** PLEASE REMEMBER WITH A PRAYER all those in hospital and all those waiting for tests or operations, all those undergoing tests, procedures and operations and those awaiting test results. Lord Jesus, friend of the sick, console those who are unwell, restore them to health and bless all who are with them.
