1 NOVEMBER 2018 Messenger - page 1 The Messenger from First United Methodist NOVEMBER 2018 Church of Boone. A monthly publication From the Pastor There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven....god has made everything beautiful for its own time. Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11 In this issue From the Pastor 1 Worship Volunteers 2 Rummage Sale Thanks 2 United Methodist Women 3 Thanksgiving Dinner 4 Coming Up 4 Habitat Event at FUMC 4 This and That 5 Budget Report 6 Calendar 7 Coffee Fellowship Schedule 7 First UMC - Boone 703 Arden Street PO Box 206 Boone, Iowa The mission of the Boone First United Methodist Church is to glorify God by nurturing disciples to live and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. Hatch em - Match em & Dispatch em In a week or two, the leaves will all be gone. The trees will be bare. Autumn will have vanished and winter will have descended. Cold will have conquered. So much of our culture...and our modern marketing...is focused on the vibrancy of youth. Even when the reality of aging knocks on our door, we seek to put it off, or pretend it is not there. We cover it up. We deny it. We nip, tuck, and stretch it away. BUT MOST OF ALL...we hang on to the illusions of our own youth...of what used to be. And before you know it...autumn vanishes and winter descends. I ve received a couple wake-up calls recently... Like many of you, I got my photo taken for the new church directory. My response to seeing it, perhaps like some of you as well, was...wow! When did I get so seasoned! I look in the mirror, and instead of seeing hairs that have always been brown, I see some lighter shades of brown (OK...shades of gray!). Some aches and pains...that used to go away...have taken up permanent residence. Guess What?......AUTUMN IS COMING! The vivid colors of autumn always impress me...and it seems to me, that much of our life s color and vibrancy can be found in the autumn of life... Kids grow up and move out. Opportunities for deeper relationships with our spouse and friends are present. All those years of experience and faithfulness open the door for greater degrees of wisdom, influence, and contribution. Moving past the illusions of what used to be...maybe we grow into a greater reflection of what God wants us to be. We can t prevent our aging any more than we can prevent the colored leaves from letting go of the autumn trees. We can, however, color our lives in vibrant ways as we let God s glory show forth in the changes of life...and the commitment to be alive to that glory, no matter what season it is. There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven....god has made everything beautiful For it s own time. Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11 Blessings...Pastor Doug

CHURCH OFFICE HELP NEEDED I have two groups of folks that are in need of some additional help. 1. Bulletin Folders - There are 5 groups of three that rotate on Friday mornings at 9:30 to fold the bulletins for Sunday. Currently I need TWO new people (man or woman) to complete two of those teams. Also, I need a few as alternates that can be called if someone can t make it the day they are scheduled. 2. Office Help - I have a list of ladies that will cover the office when I go on vacation or for a sick day. That list has had a few that had to stop helping so I need a few new people to add to that list so the ones currently on it won t have to work as often. If you are willing and available to be added to one or both of these groups please give me a call at the office Thanks, Donna
