9 Taking Faith Home SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR THIS WEEK But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. Isaiah 43:1 (NRSV) RITUALS AND TRADITIONS Bap%sm claims us as a child of God by the power of the Holy Spirit. It involves a life- %me of in%macy with God. In Luke 3:21 it states that Jesus was praying at the %me of his bap%sm. Prayer is an expression of that in%mate rela%onship with God. Take %me this week to remember your own bap%sm by ligh%ng a candle, looking at bap%smal pictures, placing water in a bowl and si0ng in silent prayer. Give thanks for Jesus bap%sm and your own. Begin a tradi%on of remembering your bap%smal anniversary each year and thinking about your bap%sm daily when bathing, washing hands, or drinking water. PRAYERS A Prayer for the Week: Almighty God, open our ears to hear your voice and our lips to shout your glory. Amen. 11 Weekly Announcements January Health Ministry Team SAM will hold complimentary blood pressure checks on January 12th and 13th. The Saturday checks will take place prior to the 5:00 V+ service. Sunday blood pressure checks will be done between services. Recent studies show that 41% of black families and 45% of Hispanic families own their own homes. For white families, that figure is 71%. Being forced into the rental market can make it more difficult to exit from poverty. Roughly 1 in 6 black and Hispanic households spend more than 50% of their income on housing, leaving them with fewer resources to devote to their children s education, health care and other basic needs. (Stanford University report ) Divine Yoga is Back Inner Strength, Divine Connection, January 29-March 12, 5:30-6:45 pm in the Community Room. This is a free yoga practice. However, good will donations will be forwarded to local charities. (& generously matched!) Please bring an open and willing mind, heart and a yoga mat. Tax Changes for Seniors As you start getting your documents ready for your 2018 tax return, it is likely you are going to have questions about how the changes in the tax code will affect you when completing your 2018 tax return.
