2 Order of Service Confession and Forgiveness Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, who creates us and forms us, who redeems us and calls us, who unites us and sends us. Amen. Gathered in God s presence, let us confess our sin. Silence for reflection and self-examination Almighty God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We seek our own way. We divide the body of Christ. In your mercy, cleanse us and heal us. Let the words of our mouths, the thoughts of our hearts, and everything that we do be filled with faith, hope, and love. Amen. In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for you, and for his sake God forgives you all your sins. To those who believe in Jesus Christ he gives the power to become the children of God and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. Amen. 3 Gospel Luke 3:15-17, As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, 16 John answered all of them by saying, I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. 21 Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you O Christ. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.* On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Our day will include workshops geared to enrich our lives, both personally and for our church life, inspirational keynote speakers, and the opportunity to spend the day with Lutheran's from all over the SWMN Synod. There is no cost for you to attend this event which includes lunch, however, you do need to register with Pastor Michelle by Feb 10th. Women of Worship Outing (formerly MOPS) at Bethesda Friday, January 18 1:30pm - Kerkhoven Civic Center, a kickoff event for a new area project will be held. Laura Thomas from Prairie 5 will talk about a new group called Helping Hands. The purpose of this group is to use skills to create items that will fill needs for different groups in our area. The first group partner will be Safe Avenues. Chrissy Thompson, Swift County Outreach for Safe Avenues, will talk about the program and discuss needs that exist. With Laura, we'll then decide what things we can do and how often we want to get together. Abby Holtkamp will provide some piano entertainment and there will be cookies, coffee and cider to enjoy while we discuss. So if you crochet, knit, embroider, can cut, tie a knot, wind balls of yarn or do anything else that will help fill needs for Safe Avenues, stop on over. Men, there will be things for you to do, too. Donations of yarn, hooks and needles, floss, hangers, knifty knitters, etc are appreciated.
