2 Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Jesus of Nazareth is so intrinsically King that the title King has actually become his name. By calling ourselves Christians, we label ourselves as followers of the King God did not intend Israel to have a Kingdom. The Kingdom was a result of Israel s rebellion against God The law was to be Israel s King, and, through the law, God himself (Pope Benedict XVI). Advent begins next Sunday Most of us use the month of December to shop and prepare for Christmas. Although practically speaking this is a fine thing to do, the Church wants to remind us of the spiritual significance of Christmas. Please also use this month of December to remember the meaning of Christmas: Jesus was born on Christmas day to ultimately save the world. God sent Jesus into the world not so we would have a Christmas but that he would give us a savior. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our savior. Although I also participate in the same beautiful and festive traditions as everyone else, one of the things that helps me stay focused on the true meaning of Christmas is this beautiful prayer. It is piously believed that whoever recites this prayer 15 times a day from the feast of St. Andrew (November 30th) until Christmas Day (December 25th) will obtain what is asked. Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, O my God! to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His blessed Mother. 3 DEACON LACHLAN A new museum opened last week in Washington D.C. The Museum of the Bible delivered on its promise to create a museum that would present the Bible in an engaging way to all kinds of people. The museum is located only two blocks from the National Mall, and the new $500 million project will attract visitors to the city, no matter their denomination or whether they are believers or not. Drawing on the expertise of scholars from more than 60 universities and seminaries, and an advisory board that includes archaeologists, pastors, priests and rabbis, the museum tells the story of the Bible in a way that a Jew, a Catholic, a Protestant or even a non-believer would find respectful and enlightening. Using innovative technology and multi-media exhibits that would be at home at the latest Disney theme park, the museum immerses the visitor in the story of the Bible, engaging the senses and the intellect. We can imagine someone with little to no familiarity with the Bible being struck, on an emotional level, by the dramatic power of the Stories of the Bible exhibit. Visitors stroll through a special effects-enhanced narration of the Old Testament, which tells the story from Creation on. Using high-definition video and sometimes startling sound and light effects, the exhibit brings home the drama of the stories of the Flood, Passover, Exodus, and the Kingdom of Israel. In the New Testament exhibit, the story of Christianity is told in a compelling, animated feature shown on a 210-degree panoramic screen, with some surprising special effects. Visitors can wander around a recreation of a 1st-century village, complete with olive trees and stone houses and streets. Quotations from Jesus parables are presented alongside the physical manifestation of the symbols he used to instruct his disciples sheep, wine, bread, silver coins, and cornerstones. Although I haven t yet been to the museum, I understand that when Paul is struck by lightning on the road to Damascus, the effect on visitors is truly dramatic. The exhibit on the Impact of the Bible on America is the story of the founding of America from the Christian principles on which it was actually founded. Visitors are taken on a tour that covers the Bible s influence on the Founding Fathers, right through to debates over equality and religious freedom. This is of great importance to us today, when we are constantly faced with a secular press, and politicians, who are striving to convince us that the founding of our nation had nothing to do with God, and in a particular way, nothing to do with the gospel message of Jesus Christ. These are difficult times for people of faith. This new museum in the heart of our nation s capital sends a wave of optimism to all believers, and a message to the elites of our nation, who are trying to remove God from the fabric of our society, that we will not be fooled by their insidious propaganda. May almighty God bless us, protect us from all evil, and lead us into everlasting life. Amen. -3-

6 Rosary Altar Society The Rosary Altar Society will meet next Sunday, December 3rd, at the 11am Mass. There will be reserved seating for all members, their spouses and family. Eat, dance, laugh and enjoy a Christmas celebration at the beautifully decorated Inn at New Hyde Park on Monday, December 4th from 6pm til 10pm. A DJ will be playing music. 8 2017 Christmas Eve Pageant This year, the Holy Spirit Christmas Pageant will take place on Friday, December 15th at 7:00 pm in the Church. All children from 4 years old through 6th grade are invited to take part in our Christmas Pageant. If you don t want to be in the pageant but would still like to be a part of it, you can also sign-up to be in the Christmas Pageant Choir. Children 2nd grade through 8th grade are invited to sing in the Christmas Pageant Choir! Sign up will take place on Sunday, November 26th and Sunday, December 3rd, after the 9:30 am Mass, in the back of the Church. All children in the pageant need to attend a rehearsal on Saturday, December 9th at 9:30 am in the Church. Members of the Parish are also invited to come to the pageant! After the pageant is over, we will have hot chocolate and other treats in the cafeteria! It will be a great night and a wonderful way to prepare for Christmas!
