The four who are responsible for bringing everything together are: Marilyn McClean (Director and Music Director), Mimi Jaye (Assistant Director), Maureen Hogan and Marina Virdone (Producers). Rosary Society Last Monday, the Rosary Society had their annual Christmas Dinner for the Rosarians and all women from the parish who were interested in attending. It was a nice way to get together to begin celebrating the Christmas season among friends, as we spiritually prepare during this time of Advent. The board, led by Co-Presidents Dolores Cameron and Eileen Smith, did their usual wonderful job and everyone seemed to have a good time. We also thank the Rosarians for raising over $12,000 profit at the Christmas Fair a few weeks ago. Blessed are they! 3 DEACON LACHLAN The essay below is adapted from an article in Aleteia Having the best Christmas is all about preparation. If we take it for granted, we might still go through the motions but in the end Christmas becomes just another thing that we do and, once it s over, we re left exhausted and can t wait to put away the tree. Advent is the period of time before Christmas that helps us prepare, and using the season of Advent wisely is the secret to getting the most out of Christmas. Here are a few thoughts on how to do that. Do something generous Hopefully, we re nice all the time and following this advice isn t some last-minute, desperate attempt to get on Santa s good side. But in the weeks leading up to Christmas, there are opportunities to exercise generosity in specific ways. For instance, it s a great time to bake cookies for neighbors, go caroling at the local nursing home, or send care packages to first responders or those serving in the armed forces overseas who are working through the holidays. Pick at least one thing you ll do this Advent and get the whole family involved if you can. Visit relatives The weeks before Christmas are a great time to get together or plan for visits during the upcoming holiday. Advent is the perfect excuse to renew relationships. As we put out our nativity sets and think about the Holy Family, it makes sense to put some time into our own families. Forgive someone Advent is a reminder of the simple values of patience and generosity, so it s a fitting time to review the past year. What grudges or ill will are lingering? Make the effort to pray about being reconciled in your own heart with someone who has hurt you. If that someone who needs to be forgiven is you, forgive yourself and let go of the guilt. If you haven t gone to the sacrament of Confession in a long time, now is the time to go.nothing is more freeing than saying your faults out loud, owning them, and moving on with the assurance of forgiveness. A heart free of burdens is an open heart, ready to love, and prepared to have the best Christmas ever. May almighty God bless us, protect us from all evil, and lead us into everlasting life. Children 2nd grade through 8th grade will be singing in the Christmas Pageant Choir! EVERYONE is invited to come to the pageant! After the pageant is over, we will have hot chocolate and other treats in the cafeteria! It will be a great night and a wonderful way to prepare for Christmas! They discarded the 2017 hymnals and lectionary readings and replaced them with the 2018 version. We thank them for their time, kindness and generosity. CHRISTMAS COLLECTION Please consider, in prayer, how much of a donation you will make to Holy Spirit parish this Christmas. I have proudly been a good steward of your money. We have not had a capital campaign nor have we sold any parish property, but we have made a huge financial comeback by cutting back on unnecessary expenses (and trust me, there were many!). However, a few times a year - Christmas, Easter, Festival and Catholic Ministries Appeal, I do ask for the support of the parish because we rely on these collections to build on our parish nest egg. This will assure parish financial stability for many years to come. Whether you are rich or poor, please do the best you can, and as always, be assured your money will either be saved or spent very wisely. Thank you! Happy Advent and an early Merry Christmas! Fr. Grieco, but address it Dear parishioners of Holy Spirit parish. Pro-Life News Our Spiritual Adopted Babies have been especially remembered on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The Adopt-A- Baby cards were on the altar for the Masses. Thank you for your continued prayers. The following is a special prayer, authored by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, for the unborn children. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion. REMEMBER THE GIVING TREES During the season of Advent, the Social Ministry Office sponsors Giving trees. You are invited to take one or more ornaments. The gifts need to be returned by this weekend of December 9 and 10, as we distribute the gifts to the families the week before Christmas. Please attach the labeled ornament to a new gift. Each ornament is marked with a number for a specific person of a family. Please do not change the gift or the size. If you are giving a store certificate, please be sure the DOLLAR AMOUNT is on the card.
