2 Off to a Great Start! Thank you to everyone who has gotten St. Alphonsus off to a great start! We are already at 20% of the way toward meeting our Responsibility for this year s Catholic Ministries Appeal. $59,000 We ve had 82 donors contributing an average gift of $ households are new to the CMA and 24 households have been able to increase their gift this year. Please consider making a pledge over time rather than a one-time donation. A $25 one-time gift would swell to a gift of $175 of you were able to give $25 per month for the next 7 months (November to May). The gift I give is very manageable when spread out over the time frame of the entire campaign. If you have not yet given, would you please give prayerfully and generously in support of this great cause. $12,800 21% St. Alphonsus directly benefits from your gift. We have had the assistance of the diocese in training our staff members, including a 2-year leadership seminar that I attend once a month, improvement of our website, IT support, and human resources efforts. Because of those benefits, we are able to better serve our community, leading people to healing and deepening their faith because of your generosity. I know there are many other charities and organizations that could also use your donations. There is one thing that sets CMA above the others: the CMA is yours. The CMA supports important ministries in our local church the Diocese of Rochester. Your gift benefits people in your area and those who minister in your name. We may choose to associate ourselves with other ministries and organizations. Still, here at St. Alphonsus we are naturally associated with the good work of the Diocese. So please give early, give as generously as possible, and be a part of the success of this year s CMA. Thank you!

3 How to Say the Rosary 1. Make the Sign of the Cross and say the Apostles Creed. 2. Say the Our Father. 3. Say three Hail Marys. 4. Say the Glory be to the Father. 5. Announce the First Mystery; then say the Our Father. 6. Say ten Hail Marys while meditating on the Mystery. 7. Say the Glory be to the Father. 8. Announce the Second Mystery; then say the Our Father. Repeat 6 and 7 and continue with Third, Fourth and Fifth Mysteries in the same manner. Spiritual Fruit: Spiritual Courage 1. Jesus took Peter, James and John up a high mountain to pray. 2. Jesus was transfigured before them. 3. "His face became as dazzling as the sun, his clothes as radiant as light." 4. This was to fortify their faith to withstand the coming tragedy of the Passion. 5. Jesus foresaw the 'scandal of the cross,' and prepared them for it by this manifestation of His glory. 6. Moses and Elias (representing the Law and the prophets of the Old Testament) were conversing with Jesus about His Passion. 7. "Do not think I have come to destroy the Law or the Prophets... but to fulfill them." 8. From a cloud came a voice: "This is my beloved Son, listen to Him." 9. Jesus admonishes them not to tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man rises from the dead. 10. We too will behold the transfigured Jesus on the Last Day. DIRECTOR AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! We need volunteers and a director for our annual Children s Christmas Pageant. This is performed during Mass on Christmas Eve and narrated by Father Tim. The children of our parish get to perform the Nativity and the entire community is gifted a beautiful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. Please remember St. Alphonsus Church in your will. Fall is here, children are back in school and your Food Pantry is in need! Without school to help feed children, our supplies have rapidly depleted. With the holidays right around the corner, we need donations! Our clients need items like canned meals (e.g. Spaghettios, Beef Stew, etc.), tuna fish, soup, cereals, baked beans, cheese snacks, juice boxes, and fruit cups to name a few. You can also use the list posted on the church bulletin boards. You can leave donations in the church or at the Food Pantry. We are open Mon-Sat, 9am to 11:30am. We can also accept frozen food or refrigerated foods. We also accept monetary donations. Thank you for all you do for the less fortunate in our community.
