4 FEATURE Serving the Servants Cam Short Short-Term Ministries Coordinator Most people would agree that life as a missionary isn t particularly easy. Things like adjusting to strange new foods, living in extreme weather conditions, or even something as simple as learning to drive on the wrong side of the road can be inconvenient and uncomfortable. But many of the challenges of life as a missionary go beyond simple inconvenience. Most of our missionaries face obstacles like leaving close family and friends behind, learning to communicate in a completely new language, and trying to survive in a strange and foreign culture. Sometimes serving on the mission field is even life-threatening, as hostility toward the gospel becomes persecution of the messenger. So when we have an opportunity to encourage these faithful servants, our church family is quick to respond. Our ongoing commitment to Faith Promise and our recent celebration of Christmas in September are both important ways we let our missionaries know that we love them and are thinking of them. Another important way that we support our Grace Church missionaries is by sending Short-Term Ministries (STM) teams. Each year our missionaries ask us to send teams made up of members of our Grace Church family to help them with their summer outreach efforts. With the help of these STM teams our missionaries are able to proclaim the gospel in places like vacation Bible schools in South

5 Africa, college campuses in Japan, and neighborhoods in Albania. Designed to bring God glory and assist our missionaries any way we can, STM trips are also a wonderful way to offer them encouragement for their faithful service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In addition to meeting very real needs for practical help, STM teams serve as representatives of the entire Grace Church family to our missionaries, allowing them to see and feel our church s full support of their ministry of the gospel overseas. This summer, 16 teams are planned to travel to 11 different countries. More than 100 plane tickets will be purchased, more than 15,000 prayer letters will be distributed, and more than $280,000 will need to be raised all for the purpose of helping our missionaries more effectively reach the nations with the gospel. Although most of our congregation will not physically travel this summer on an STM team, your prayerful partnership and financial support make this vital ministry possible. In a very real way, when you support our teams you are encouraging and supporting our missionaries. Thank you for helping to make it possible for our STM teams to serve those who serve abroad. Our missionaries will be blessed by the long-term impact of your commitment to our short-term teams. Local Outreach Spotlight Neighborhood Outreach Sundays 12:30 p.m. T265 This ministry brings the good news of God s grace to our local community on Sunday afternoons. After a potluck meal, participants go out into the neighborhood to present the gospel, invite our neighbors to church, and learn about any needs our church may be able to meet. The ministry also does street evangelism at the North Hollywood Metro Station. For more information call

7 Faith Promise Fruit Three years ago Grace Church sent out Gus and Melissa Pidal to join the ministry of David and Loida Robles in León, Spain. Last month Ruben and Jenn Videira arrived in Spain to join their ministry team. Supported in part by your Faith Promise giving, this month these missionaries are officially launching a degree in expository preaching at Berea Seminary. Gus reports the exciting news We are continuing with the 15 men from our school in León and the extension in Southern Spain. We also have 18 new students starting their first year of this three-year program. Pray for this endeavor; we are humbled by God s grace in allowing us to start the seminary and pray that He will bless the men who are coming from the different parts of Spain as they study God s Word.
