4 FEATURE Maybe it s been awhile since you ve been around junior high students. You re in a different season of life, and you just don t cross paths with young teenagers very often, if at all. If that s the case, our students are missing a blessing and so are you. In Romans 1:16 we read that the gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. This certainly extends to junior high students. It is common for the church to refer to its young people as the future of the church. While we know what it means, that phrase fails to acknowledge the immediate need a regenerate student has for the rest of the body, and it also discourages that student from realizing his usefulness in the church. The various ministries in our church are all shaped by a high view of the gospel. In Junior High Ministry, this means that when we gather, our priority is gospel progress. Our desire is that the precious students who regularly assemble in the basement would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. And for those junior high students the whole fami who are saved, our intention is to further strengthen their understanding of the gospel and its impact on their life. We recognize that when God saves a seventh- or eighth-grader, He makes that student a new creation, able to do good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them (Ephesians 2:10). Such a student immediately becomes part of the family. When God saves a student they are not part of the next generation, but are sovereignly placed among the present generation. They belong in our church, and we rejoice that we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another (Romans 12:5). Just like you, the junior high students of our church benefit from our pastor s teaching; they are motivated by encouragement and fellowship, they need godly examples to follow, and they also have much to offer. They challenge us through their sincerity, their zeal to witness in their schools and neighborhoods, and their affection for Christ. A church that ignores these young saints limits its effectiveness and ignores a part of its own family. junior high ministry

5 ly of god With that in mind, I encourage you to consider two ways you can be involved with Junior High Ministry at Grace Church. prayfor junior high ministry The world is telling these young men and women that rational thought leaves no room for God, and proclaims to them the supposed pleasures of sin. They face a barrage of temptation and an increasing absence of godly role models. Pray that our students will embrace the call to salvation and that God s grace would save them. Pray that once they are saved, they will begin to love the local church and function as part of our family. engage in junior high ministry Our students are all over campus between services on Sundays, and they attend the second hour worship service. You probably know where they sit. Be encouraged to stop and talk to them. The world has low expectations of teenagers; the church should be different. Our students need to be reminded that God can use people of any age to be a part of the body of Christ and serve Him with greater zeal. XCHANGE meets in the basement every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and again at 6:00 p.m. Even if you don t have junior high students in your home, perhaps you do in your extended family or in your neighborhood. Invite them to church and let us join you in proclaiming the gospel. The next time you see a teenager around campus, take a moment to say hello. 6 HIGHLIGHTS Faith Promise Fruit Your Faith Promise giving impacts the gospel ministry efforts of our missionary families around the globe. In a recent newsletter, Grace Church missionaries Philippe and Sophia Viguier shared what the Lord has been doing in their church in Lyon, France. Philippe writes, We are still in awe of how many people God is bringing to Himself in salvation. Two weeks ago, we saw the profession of faith of Hélène, who heard the gospel at a ski camp organized by people from our church. We also have had the joy of seeing more baptisms, including Roxanne, who was saved last year after finding out about our church on the internet. Overall, the church is doing well. The building is often packed on Sundays, even though we have sent two groups to plant churches in the past four years. We pray that God will give us the wisdom to manage our continuing growth. Praise God for building His Church in France.
