4 A BEACON OF ENCOURAGEMENT FEATURE The wind whipped with furious force, making the sails taut and hard to maneuver. Beneath a starless sky, the cold winter air snapped at the sailors as they worked tirelessly to keep the ship steady and finish the expedition. They had been in unreached and unexplored waters for a very long time their courage and faithfulness had been tested and proved many times over. They struggled with loneliness; their only connection to home, a faint image occasionally summoned from their memories. Suddenly in the far-off distance, they saw a bright light: a lighthouse, illuminating the shoreline and flooding their hearts with a hope, a comfort, and a reminder that they were not alone that a safe harbor was in reach. Our missionaries, in this same way, are navigating new and uncharted opportunities in foreign lands. They serve the Lord with great dedication and sacrifice as they look to deliver the gospel around the world. They also feel the same separation from their friends, families, and home church. Every year, our church family has a great opportunity to bridge the miles and be a beacon of encouragement, hope, and truth, reaching out to our missionaries and reminding them that we are standing on the shoreline praying for them, bringing them and their ministries before the Lord. Christmas in September is designed to provide a channel through which our church family can communicate messages of love, devotion, prayer, and care to our heroic missionaries. It is a practical and tangible expression of our continual gratitude and kindred ties. It refreshes and fortifies the faith of our missionaries to know that their home church is committed to them, and looking to strengthen our relationships together, shoulder burdens, show compassion, and build them up. What an incredible blessing it will be for our missionaries to receive cards, gifts, and an outpouring of love from our church at Christmas. It s a chance to assure them that they are indeed anchored to our hearts. Every Sunday morning this month, you will find the Christmas in September table on

5 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. Send them a personal message of encouragement or initiate an ongoing correspondence with them through your Bible study just be sure to be part of showering them with blessings during this joyous season as we rejoice in their faithfulness, look to edify their souls, and seek to encourage them to run the race with every endurance. by the words found in Matthew 5:14 16: You are the light of the world. Trackers (three five years old) registration is open online at gracechurch.org/cm/trackers for children who are potty-trained. Job Opportunities Custodial. The Grace Church Custodial Department has part-time openings (20 29 hours/week) for custodians who enjoy working in a team environment and serving the church in practical ways. Position requires ability to be detailoriented and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Job duties include room set-up and break-down and various cleaning tasks. Applicants must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Staff Accountant. The Grace Church Accounting Department has a full-time opening for a staff accountant. Duties include maintaining the general ledger, preparing journals, performing account reconciliations, preparing financial reports in Excel format, and other general office duties. Requirements include experience in the field of accounting or bookkeeping; excellent organizational, analytical, and multi-tasking skills; the ability to work in a fast-paced environment; customer service background; and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
