4 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. 1 Corinthians 4:2 FEATURE Faithfulness is foundational to pastoral ministry. The Bible emphasizes faithfulness in ministry as a central requirement for any man who would desire the office of elder (1 Timothy 3:1 7; Titus 1:5 9). Shepherds Conference 2019 The apostle Paul the example par excellence of faithfulness in ministry uses rich metaphors to help us understand what faithfulness in ministry looks like. He speaks of running a race (1 Corinthians 9:24) and, sensing the end of his life was near, of having finished the race (2 Timothy 4:7).

5 If there s one thing that Christ s faithfulness teaches us about what faithfulness looks like in ministry, it is that we are not to make much of ourselves. If He, the Son of God the Lord of glory took upon Himself the form of a servant, there is nothing beneath a pastor in ministry. The faithful pastor expends his life for the sake of serving his Master and gives his life in shepherding the flock of God, knowing he will give an account to the Chief Shepherd. He practices what he preaches, faithful not only in preaching the Word of God but in living it. He pours out his life, using the gifts God has given him in service to God s flock. He is present, always available, and lives among them not above them. He is a man marked by his devotion to the Word of God and to prayer. These are the characteristics that marked the life and ministry of the apostle Paul, and they are the reason he could say at the end of his life, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7 8). The 2019 Shepherds Conference (March 5 8) will be dedicated to encouraging and equipping pastors and church leaders to, like Paul, fight the good fight, run hard after Christ, and keep the faith until God calls them home. Each year, our church s goal is to serve the visiting pastors and leaders in such a way that Christ is honored in all that we do both as we pray and prepare in the months leading up to the conference, and as we serve and encourage them during the conference. Please prayerfully seek the Lord s direction about how you might serve at the 2019 conference. Volunteer registration begins on January 6, 2019, with sign-ups on the patio after both morning services. Registration will close on January 20, and a mandatory volunteer meeting will take place the following Sunday on January 27. Most importantly, please pray that this conference would honor Jesus Christ and allow each attendee to leave with renewed resolve to faithfully persevere in service of Christ and His Church. Shepherds Conference March 5 8, 2019 Important Information for Volunteers All volunteers must be members of Grace Community Church in order to serve The 2019 conference will run four days (one day longer than usual): Tuesday, March 5 Friday, March 8. Volunteer registration (online and on the patio): January 6 January 20 Volunteer Prayer Meeting: Sunday, January 27, in the Family Center from 12:30 2:00 p.m. This meeting is important for all volunteers to attend. Local Outreach Spotlight Acton Rehabilitation Center Sundays and Wednesdays Every Sunday, ministry leaders take men s and women s small groups to the drug and alcohol rehab center in Acton to preach, lead Bible studies, teach FOF classes, and offer one-on-one counsel. Children s Ministry currently has several part-time openings (4 20 hours/week) for nursery workers. Hours are primarily Sundays and Wednesdays. Must be able to exhibit love to parents, children, staff and desire to serve through humility, patience, and joy. Prior work experience in childcare is preferred, and applicants must be able to successfully pass a background check. Applicants for employment must be, if employed, biblically qualified as a deacon or deaconess and a member of Grace Church.
