INSTALLATION SERVICE AND RECEPTION FOR JUDY HOCKENBERRY Next Saturday, April 25 at 3:00 pm in the Sanctuary Join together with the First Pres family of faith for a special service to install Rev. Judy Hockenberry as associate pastor for pastoral care of First Presbyterian Church. A light reception in the Parlor will follow. The service will also be webcast for live or later viewing at fpcah.org/webcast. REGISTER FOR VBS! Everest Vacation Bible School (VBS) will be held July from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Everest concentrates on anchoring kids in rock-solid Bible truths to guide them through life s challenges. VBS is open to children age 4 through those entering fifth grade in the fall of The cost is $25 per child or $50 per family. Registration includes one T-shirt per child and one music CD per family. 2 Upcoming Events RETIREMENT RECEPTION FOR CINDY KOERNER Next Sunday, April 26 Cindy Koerner will retire at the end of this month, after 20 years of service on the First Pres staff. Next Sunday, all are invited to a reception in her honor in the Parlor after each worship service. Come and thank Cindy and wish her well. You will also have an opportunity to sign a memento for Cindy. RSVP: Sandy Meyer, FIRST PRES GOLF LEAGUE The First Pres Golf League will begin the 2015 season on May 12 at Palatine Hills Golf Course. We will have Tuesday evening tee times for nine-hole rounds. 3 Serving, Giving, and Growing SUMMER SUPPERS FOR THE HUNGRY Help and Food Donations Requested First Pres will once again join more than 20 local churches to provide Summer Suppers between May and September. We will partner with Church of the Incarnation to provide supper at First Pres on the first Monday of each summer month: May 4, June 1, July 6, August 3, and September 7. If you would like to donate an entrée, salad, or dessert on any of these dates or if you can help set up, greet, serve dinner, and clean up (5:30-8:30 pm) on June 1, July 6, or September 7, please contact Barbara Psimoulis at or Thank you for your support of this mission to feed the hungry. BABY SHOWER DONATIONS Presbyterian Women invite you to help the young moms assisted by Christopher House in Chicago by donating new, unwrapped baby items, such as baby clothes, diapers and wipes, blankets, bottles and sippy cups, and toys (see the April Chimes for more). Please drop off your gift in the Baby Shower boxes in the Narthex during April. Thank you! Contact: Denise Poy, CONCERT SERIES Spring Concert On Sunday, May 3, the choirs, soloists, and orchestra of First Presbyterian Church will present John Rutter s Requiem at 4:00 pm in the Sanctuary, with Alan Wellman conducting. Requiem is an adaptation of the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass. You won t want to miss this beautiful and stirring performance. Free child care will be available. This concert will be webcast at fpcah.org/webcast. NEW MEMBERS CLASS Begins Sunday, May 3 The next New Members Class begins with a special luncheon with the pastors and staff on Sunday, May 3, from 12:30 to 2:00 pm in the Boardroom. COMING MAY 3 Bread for the World s Offering of Letters Once again we will have an opportunity to make a difference for the one in five children in our country whose families struggle to put food on the table. We can absorb some of the darkness for these children by urging congressional representatives to reauthorize programs such as school lunch subsidies and the Women, Infants, and Children program. Write a letter on Sunday morning, May 3, in the Narthex. We will bless it, put it in the mail, and let our legislators know we care. A handwritten letter is a powerful way to get the attention of our elected representatives and encourage them to respond to our concerns. Visit bread.org/ol/2015 to learn more.
