MUSIC APPRECIATION SUNDAY Today Please join us in celebrating those who are involved in our Music Ministry here at First Pres. Both services, 9:00 and 10:30 am, will recognize those who offer their musical talent to our church. Thank you for your dedication and talent! TASK FORCE SEEKS OPPORTUNITIES AND INPUT Today In February, Session approved the establishment of a task force to research business development opportunities on behalf of First Pres. Session members participating in the Business Development Task Force include Kate McVay, Ingrid Kaufman, Craig Perkins, Jamie Swaim, and Dave Berkow. We would like to invite the congregation to engage with us as we move into the next phase of idea generation and viability review. These ideas can be wide ranging, but they need to fit three criteria: (1) employs low-wage workers, providing them with marketable skills (2) fills a gap that is needed for the poor (3) provides a profit stream back to the church. Please feel free to seek out any of the task force members following the 10:30 am worship service today. If you have a more detailed concept of how the idea would work, please bring along written notes for the committee to review. 2 Upcoming Events ROAD CLOSURES AROUND FIRST PRES Due to construction being completed on the Parkview Apartments at 212 N. Dunton Ave., First Pres will be impacted by summer road closures around the building. Road closures will occur on the following dates: June 21 through June 30, and July 5 through August 18. The closure will effect Eastman Street which will be closed from Dunton Ave. to Vail St. For more information please see the notice on the bulletin board in the church foyer. We will keep you updated on any further changes. SHOP EARLY AT THE RUMMAGE SALE For those of you who would like to get a jump on your rummage sale shopping, be sure to stop by the Narthex today to purchase your rummage pre-sale ticket. A limited number of tickets will be available for $10 each and will be available on Sundays until June 18, or until tickets are sold out. Your pre-sale ticket gets you and your immediate family into the pre-sale from 5:30 to 8:30 pm on Thursday, June 22. JUST FRIENDS (adults 50+) Saturday, June 17 Grab your kilt, we are off to the Scottish Festival! Join us for a day at the Scottish Festival Highland Games. The festival is at 17 Hamilton Lake, 300 Park Blvd, Itasca (Tickets: $20). Meet at church at 10:00 am. For details and to RSVP to events: Contact Toni Eaton at ENGRAVED BRICK ORDERS Engraved bricks in the Memorial Prayer Garden honor loved ones and friends, living or deceased, in a beautiful setting. Engraved bricks require a donation of $50 for two lines of 12 characters and spaces or a donation of $65 for three lines of 12 characters and spaces. Forms are available in the form rack by the church office. For installation in the Fall of 2017, please have your orders in by Monday, June 26. Bricks are ordered once each year and are installed only in the Fall, usually September or October. Late orders will not be ordered until next year. Mail or deliver your completed order form and attached check to the church office. If you have questions, you may contact Betty Launer at SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL & CHILDREN S CHOIR BEGINS TODAY! Children grades K-5 are welcome to join us in the Loaves & Fishes Garden for Summer Sunday School beginning today, June 11. We ll meet by Door 8 at 8:50 am (or in Fellowship Hall if it is raining). Consider applying sun screen prior to dropping off your child(ren) and be sure to send them with a water bottle. Summer Sunday School will also meet on June 18, July 16, July 30, and August 6. Following Summer Sunday School, Children s Choir will meet from 10:00 10:15 am. During June, children will meet in the Chapel, and in July and August they will meet in Fellowship Hall. Questions? 3 Serving, Giving, and Growing CHRISTOPHER HOUSE BACKPACKS Sundays, Today through June 25 Christopher House is completing another successful year for grades kindergarten through third grade, and they will be adding fourth grade next year! The Christopher House Auxiliary needs your help in providing backpacks for the students. Our goal is to provide 250 backpacks. With a gift of $20.00 you can sponsor a child whose family cannot afford to buy a backpack. Following each church service a table will be available to receive your donations. Thank you for your support! SAVE THESE DATES & SAVE YOUR STUFF The Rummage Sale to support youth missions will return June 23 and 24! The drop-off dates for your donated treasures are Tuesday, June 13 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, and Saturday, June 17 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Door 4 on Eastman Street. Visit fpcah.org/ news to learn more.
