Set for Weekend Masses Set for Faith Formation Week of June 24 - June 30 Liberti Family Fantauzzi/Ruffalo Family Liturgy of the Hours: Praying Without Ceasing Starting next month, we will begin to offer Evening Prayer or Vespers on the third Sunday of every month, starting on Sunday, July 15 th at 6:15 PM (after the Sunday afternoon Mass). The Liturgy of the Hours is another public prayer of the Church. The most commonly known of our public prayers, of course, is the Holy Mass. Although the Liturgy of the Hours is commonly prayed by religious orders and ordained ministers, it is not uncommon that many lay people pray it as well. In the Liturgy of the Hours, we get to pray primarily by using the Psalms in the Old Testament. We hope that praying the Liturgy of the Hours would help us in praying the Responsorial Psalm at the weekend Masses. June Frosino will be sharing more information about the Liturgy of the Hours before Holy Mass, and we look forward to praying together in unity and with one voice. Some Liturgy of the Hours apps that you might want to try are ibreviary and Laudate. Praying the Vespers would be a good way to end the day and to start the week, in peaceful prayer. Praying the Rosary with the Knights Please join the Knights of Columbus to pray the rosary before the Mass on Sunday, June 30rd at 4:00 PM. Experience the power of contemplative prayer that the Rosary affords us - leading into restful meditation as we reflect the life of our Lord Jesus. The meditative repetition of prayers helps us to enter into the silence of our hearts, where Christ's spirit dwells and can be found. Cleanliness is Next to Godliness Let our reverence for God and His House show in the way we promote and maintain cleanliness in church and in our parish campus. How? Put back hymnals and missalettes in the racks or at the ends of the pews. Pick up any tissue paper, cheerios, etc. and dispose properly. Leave the restrooms clean by properly disposing used paper towels in trash bins. Observe take-in and take-out policy at parish events to avoid piling leftovers in the Parish Center refrigerator and freezer. Remember to label and to take home your cook wares and serving plates. Follow new instructions on proper disposal of recyclables in the Parish Center. Fold and put back tables and chairs in their racks after use, and properly store them in Wayne s Office. Remember what we learned in kindergarten: Put things back to where we found them. Saint Patrick s Preschool School Year Register Now Will your child be 3, 4 or 5 by December 1 st? 6 Let there be light Salvation History: It is about our return to God. (Reflection on Luke 1:5-17) Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous in the eyes of God, observing all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren and both were advanced in years. Biblically, what does it mean to be righteous? Simply, to be righteous is to observe the Word of God. God alone is righteous and so to be righteous is to follow the way of God. The righteousness of Zechariah and Elizabeth depended on God alone. Even their bringing to fulfillment the divine command, Be fertile, and multiply depended on the initiative of God. In Zechariah and Elizabeth, to be faithful points to two things: one s relationship with God, and this relationship s enduring nature over time. Living out our faith: Know the Word of God and live it, with trust in God that endures forever. But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall name him John. God hears and listens to prayers. God does so in relation to His plan of salvation, at the proper place and time. Zechariah (that is, God remembers) and Elizabeth (that is, God promises) understood the power of God: while it was impossible for them to bear child in her barrenness and in their old age, they continued to pray believing that in God nothing is impossible. The name of John is very telling: it means God is gracious. Living out our faith: If you were to choose a name that connects with God, what would it be? He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's womb, and he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. The grace of John results in the re-turning of the hearts of people to their God. In the story of salvation, it is human nature to forget and to turn away from God, and it is divine nature to remember and to make men and women remember the great vocation we have, that is, the capacity to hear God, to enter into relationship with Him, and to live according to His word. Living out our faith: Live the grace of Baptism and Confirmation. Be a herald of Christ for others, like John the Baptist. Consistent Life Ethic It not good to break-up the family, and so pray for all governments that they may provide for the basic needs of their people, for parents, that they may have decent work that they may take responsibility for their family, and for mobility that is free and respectful of civil laws, for men and women, that they may value human love and sexuality, marriage and children, that they may not resort to taking the life of their unborn children, for children and teens, that they may grow with good selfesteem and appreciate about the gift of human sexuality (and not succumb to gender ideologies), for the terminally ill and the elderly, that their life may not be taken away from them because of false understanding of pain and suffering, and of misguided compassion. - Father Edison Parish Office & Preschool Information Hours: Monday - Thursday: 8:30 AM - 4 PM (lunch time: 12:30 PM - 1 PM) Friday: 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM Parish Office Phone: (585) Parish Office Fax: (585) Faith Formation & Preschool: (585) Stay Connected Parish Website: Follow regular updates through our website.
