6 Let there be light From Death to Resurrection. Both Disciples and Missionaries. (Reflection on Mark 16:1-7) Very early when the sun had risen, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb. They were saying to one another, Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb? The utter newness of the resurrection evaded the understanding of the first disciples. Although Jesus had previously mentioned his rising from the dead to them, it would be their personal encounter and experience of Jesus risen from the dead that would make them understand who Jesus is and how far God is willing to love us by saving us from the clutches of sin and death. Living out our faith: While recognizing the reality of death, acknowledge the even greater reality of new and eternal life in the resurrection of Jesus. On entering the tomb they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a white robe, and they were utterly amazed. He said to them, Do not be amazed! You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Behold the place where they laid him. The Good News of the resurrection can only come from God, and, therefore, the need for its messenger. Jesus is victor over sin and death. Divine life overcomes death. The resurrection renders the tomb empty. Living out our faith: In Baptism, Jesus shares with us his divine life. We do not own his life but we are made stewards or caretakers of it. Live his divine life well everyday. But go and tell his disciples and Peter, He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you. The Good News of the resurrection leads not to paralysis but to movement - so as to share it with others. In other words, to experience and to hear about the resurrection is to share it with others. Disciples grow to become missionaries. Living out our faith: With whom have you shared the Good News of Jesus resurrection? Pray for the discernment needed for sharing the Good News with others. Living the Gift of Divine Life I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. - Galatians 2:20 At the presentation made by Dr. Thomas Carroll on Physician Assisted Suicide last Wednesday, it was good to be reminded, through the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 2280, that the life we live is not our own but is the life of God entrusted to us to be its stewards or caretakers. In Baptism, the images of the baptismal candle lit from the Paschal Candle and of the white garment point us to our reception of the divine life. In the Eucharist, God s Word, the Body and Blood of Jesus continue to nurture us with divine food and life. In Confirmation, we are reminded of the gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. May the Easter season remind us and keep us from forgetting this wonderful truth and reality. And may the Easter season be the time for us to be renewed in life and for us to actively live and nurture the gift of divine life. - Father Edison Parish Office & Preschool Information Hours: Monday - Thursday: 8:30 AM - 4 PM (lunch time: 12:30 PM - 1 PM) Friday: 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM Parish Office Phone: (585) Parish Office Fax: (585) Faith Formation & Preschool: (585) Stay Connected Parish Website: Follow regular updates through our website.
