3 From the Pastor s Desk, We find ourselves in the glow of the Easter Candle for the 50 days after Easter. Lent has ended very quickly, perhaps before some even knew it had begun. Our secular society is rushing after whatever will sell next in the stores, but the Catholic Church continues to celebrate the Resurrection of our savior. Christ walked the earth following His resurrection, appearing and strengthening the apostles and disciples for their mission ahead. Within the liturgy of the Catholic Church we relive those events of Jesus life. As we celebrated the liturgies of the Triduum, each of those liturgies were a reliving of those most special events of Jesus life. Those liturgies use all of our senses to help us experience those events. From the washing of feet, to processions, to incense, music, candles, extra readings, darkness, fire; all the senses were engaged. Some may ask what is the importance of redoing these liturgies each year? Easter is Easter, lets go to Church, out to eat and get on with the next thing. We, as adults, are no different than children. Repetition is an important role in imprinting both our brains and our spirits. When I work with our young people in the musical we practice the actions, the script, the music until it becomes a part of them. That is why they are so good up on the stage and are not nervous. Some students that are shy or reserved in person can become alive up on the stage. When we experience a stimulus over and over, the memories become a subconscious part of who we are. If that is true on the stage, it is true in liturgy. Symbols and signs connect us to the universal church, through generations and across the world. Our Easter Candle is an essential part of our worship, as it proclaims Christ alive, shining in a world of darkness and sin. The Easter Candle is lit during the Easter Season, during each baptism, and the celebration of a funeral liturgy. Throughout the Easter Season our churches are decorated in flowers, white and gold altar clothes, along with the Easter Candle all in celebration of the risen Christ. Sau đó là Maria Mácđala (Gioan 20:14-17), rồi mới đến các Tông Đồ khác và Thánh Tôma (Gioan 20:19-29), cách riêng là tên của Thánh Phêrô được ghi chú vào danh sách những Tông Đồ được Chua bay tỏ mầu nhiệm phục sinh cho (Gioan 21:1-23). Chúa yêu thương tất cả những người theo Chúa. Nhưng tình yêu của Chúa khác biệt tùy theo tình yêu của mỗi người chúng ta đáp lại tình yêu Chúa. Qua hành động của tình yêu, các Tông Đồ đã kiếm lại đức tin cho mình và đã giúp biết bao nhiêu người lãnh nhận được đức tin nơi Chúa Giêsu Phục Sinh. Như Thánh Phêrô, qua niềm tin ngài được gặp thấy Chúa Giêsu Phục Sinh đã giúp hơn ba ngàn người lãnh nhận được đức tin nơi Chúa Phục Sinh (xem CV 2:41). Biết bao nhiêu người không được diễm phúc trực tiếp gặp và thấy Chúa Phục Sinh nhưng cuộc đời của họ được Chúa đánh động bởi những người đã thấy Chúa Phục Sinh. Chúa Giêsu Phục Sinh vẫn tiếp tục hiện diện với chúng ta và đánh động muôn người sau ngày phục sinh. Ngài đang hiện diện nơi những người đang làm chứng cho Ngài. Ngài đang hiện diện nơi một Giáo Hội sống động với những chứng nhân như chúng ta. Hãy tiếp tục dùng tình yêu của Chúa Phục Sinh để đánh động những tâm hồn chưa tin vào Chúa Giêsu Phục Sinh. 5 MONTHLY MASS AT CATHOLIC CHARITIES Everyone is invited to join Catholic Charities staff and volunteers at monthly Mass in the Carmelite Chapel, 424 E. Monastery St., Springfield. Mass begins at noon on the first Wednesday of each month. Bishop Edward Rice will be the celebrant April 4 and Bishop Emeritus John Leibrecht will be the celebrant May 2. ROSARY IN THE CHAPEL Please join us for a Rosary in the Chapel at 8am on April 29, We expect to do this each time there is a fifth Sunday in a month. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. ST. MARTHA S GROUP St. Martha s Group will meet on Wednesday, April 4, at 9:15am in the Dining Room. Those who are able may attend the 8:30am Mass with us before the meeting. PINOCHLE Come play pinochle with us Monday afternoons at St. Agnes Cafeteria, 1:00pm until 3:00 or sometimes later when we re having too much fun to stop! We play partners, double deck, no nines. If it has been years since you played, or you played it a little differently, or want to come just for an hour or two, you aren t alone. We have written rules to use as you play. If you play cards but have never played pinochle, someone will teach you in a few easy lessons while you play. I think the last time the group came with both a lawyer and an insurance agent that were particularly helpful. CONTEMPLATIVE OUTREACH OF SPRINGFIELD PRESENTS 2018 DAY OF PRAYER THEME: HEALING VIOLENCE Join us, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church, 3555 S. Fremont Ave., Springfield, MO.
