3 From the Pastor s Desk, So many people are running from jobs to home, to school and athletic events, back to home to sleep and then get up and repeat it all over the next day. For many people Easter was celebrated on April 16 and now it is time to move on to something else. Easter is to be celebrated until Pentecost. The question I raise this weekend, how do we find time and space for prayer? Perhaps the better question would be, DO we make time for prayer in the midst of all the stuff we are doing? Is prayer in a priority place in our daily lives? Or at the bottom of the to do list which is all too often never reached? Our relationship with God should be at the heart of who we are and all that we do. Prayer cannot be taken for granted nor left to last place. We need that personal time to give God praise, worship, thanksgiving and petition. We need the Lord beside us every day, and throughout the entire day. We need to be in touch with our God and allow Him to touch our minds and hearts through Sacred Scripture and in the silence of our hearts. This is not a luxury, it is a necessity if we want a strong relationship with God. All of us have rituals, whether we are single, or married with children. Look over your daily schedule, and plan a few minutes at the beginning of your day with that first cup of coffee. Thank God for the day and offer Him all that you do that day. Invite Him along on your daily journey. Ask for His guidance as you think of the events you know you will encounter. If you drive to work, put on a spiritual CD, or simply talk to God along the way. Find the brief moments that are a part of all of our days in which we can talk with God about what we are experiencing. What is important is making the effort to be with the Lord, even if it is only for a few minutes, and establishing a consistent pattern as part of your schedule. If you are like me, when I get away from my schedule, things do not always get completed. Our whole purpose for being is to one day be with the Lord in His kingdom, in the place He has created for us. But there is a hard question to be answered, If we don t want the relationship with God now, why would He want one with us after death? Prayer is so important in our relationship with God. It is how we communicate with our God. We cannot push it to the bottom of our to do list where it never gets done. Continue to work on your relationship with the risen Christ in this Easter Season. Agnes and Cheryl Wagstaff Several retired nurses met recently to discuss how we might be of help to older/disabled St Agnes parishioners who have no family member to care for them. We thought that there might be a need for a ride to a doctor s appointment. Or perhaps someone who doesn t hear well would like one of us to be an extra pair of ears, listening to what the doctor says and explaining it later. Or maybe some of you just needs to get out of the house for a ride/or a simple meal on a nice day so you can stay mentally healthy. We would NOT be available in place of a Home Health Care nurse who visits regularly to change dressings, etc. Call me or Elizabeth Schatz at the office to let us know if you are interested. Thank you so much for your cooperation! Emmaus Amazement Today's Gospel has some surprises for the disciples going to Emmaus. The first is that Luke tells us Jesus appeared to them, "but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him" (Luke 24:16). More likely, they were prevented by their lack of faith. They knew that Jesus had died, so this man who looked familiar couldn't be him. All they had heard was that Jesus' body was missing from the tomb. That leads to the second point. They were amazed at how Jesus explained the scriptures. Even the disciples had not thought of them as predicting Jesus' suffering and death. Yet they seem to know the truth of what Jesus was saying. Their story can help us, too. If you find you are not always able to see Jesus in the people or events of your life, you may need to stretch your faith. One way to do that is to discuss it with others. The two disciples were stretching their faith as they discussed what they had heard. Your faith will grow as you learn to express it. Another way to stretch your faith is to read and pray over the scriptures. Ask what God is trying to tell you in them. The disciples on the way to Emmaus began to see how Jesus fulfilled the promises found there. Ask God to help you see Jesus in other people. Receive Jesus in Communion as often as you can (at least once a week). Trust him and expect to see Jesus both in people around you and in the changes that come into your life. The more you look for Jesus, the easier it is to see him. Tom Schmidt, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

Saint Agnes distributes food at Crosslines every 4th Tuesday from 9am to 2pm. We need additional helpers for both the morning and afternoon. We could also use members to be on a reserve list to be called when regulars can t make it. The Well of Life is open from 10-2 every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and needs help in replacing volunteers with health issues. If you would like to help, call me at or at rfenos@sbcglobal.net. Thanks ~Ron Enos BINGO UPDATE Our grade school is a source of great pride for all of us and we know that the future will be even brighter. Apparently the lights in the classrooms were very old and functioning at about 50% capacity. Bingo money has been used to replace those lights with LED bulbs, which are brighter, use less kilowatt energy, and are less expensive to use. We appreciate our school, our teachers, and our students. It is certainly our pleasure to help brighten their day. Ginny Smithberg Join us every Wednesday at the K of C Bingo Emporium 2340 W.
