BAPTISM: Parents must call the parish office at least 3 months prior to the Baptism. Baptism is ordinarily celebrated on the second Sunday of the month. PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION (PSR): provides religious formation for youth Pre-K through high school. PSR meets Sunday mornings at 9 a.m., September thru May. MARRIAGE: As soon as a decision to marry is reached, an appointment should be arranged by the couple with the priest to begin the process of marriage preparation. This should be at least 1 year in advance of the anticipated wedding date. Reservations should not be made with a reception hall before setting the date and time of the wedding with the church. VISITATION OF THE SICK: Please inform the parish office when someone is sick, shut-in, or hospitalized, and unable to attend mass. FUNERAL: When a member of the family dies, please notify the priest as soon as possible, before making arrangements with the funeral home.

GABRIEL THE ARCHANGEL PARISH BULLETIN MAY 4, 2014 THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER THE WAY TO EMMAUS The Gospel story for the third Sunday of Easter is one of the most well loved Easter stories, possibly because we see ourselves in the two disciples on the way to the little town of Emmaus. They are leaving Jerusalem, devastated by what has happened, the death of Jesus by crucifixion. They are confused, desolate, not understanding what and why this has happened. They had placed their hopes in him, that he would be the one to redeem Israel. A stranger comes up and walks with them. It is Jesus but in their confusion, fear and doubt they do not recognize him. Through questions Jesus gets them to reveal to him what is in their minds and hearts. Then slowly, beginning with Moses and the prophets he explains to them and interprets the Scriptures that referred to him. When they reach Emmaus Jesus acts like he is going on but they urge him to stay with them. While they are having their evening meal, Jesus took bread, blessed it and gave it to them. Finally they recognize him! Were not our hearts burning within us as he spoke with us on the way? Jesus left them then but their fear, their doubt, their confusion was now gone. He had gradually revealed to them through his Word and the breaking of the bread that he was truly risen, he was alive and present with them. The Risen Jesus reveals himself to us in similar ways as we make our way through our life s journey. He speaks his Word to us in the proclamation of the scriptures, in the events and people he sends to us in our daily lives. We know him in the breaking of the bread, in the celebration of the Eucharist, in the sharing of meals with family and friends, in the sharing of our hearts and minds with others, in the beauty and glory of his creation, especially in spring. Jesus is truly risen and lives among us, never to leave us again! EASTER CELEBRATIONS During the 50 days of Easter we take part in many celebrations of life: First Communions, Confirmations, Weddings, Graduations, festivals, family meals and picnics! These are all times of joy and hope, giving thanks for the wonderful presence of the Risen Christ among us and looking forward to his glorious presence with us always! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Campbell Mystagogy, reflection on the Easter mysteries, is the chief task of these great fifty days, a pentecost, in other words, of grace and renewal. Every Sunday we have accounts of Resurrection appearances of the Lord, and sketches of the earliest efforts at being church. Lent is described as a journey to the font, and Easter may be described in similar terms, since at the very beginning an angel tells the apostles that the Risen Lord has gone before you into Galilee. Galilee, of course, was the place where Jesus did his finest work, his preaching, his healing, his gathering the lost and the marginalized to the table. At Easter, we hurry to catch up, putting our renewed baptismal promises to work in our own personal Galilees, our little worlds waiting for a word of grace, a healing, an act of pardon, an invitation to share a meal. The water often splashed on our Sunday assemblies in Eastertide remind us: these are the golden, shining days of grace, days to nurture the heart, to speak to one another about things that really matter. Just say what you hear Mommy say, she replied. So the little boy bowed his head with everyone else and said, Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner. Amen. The title of her presentation is The Spirituality of Survival: Ending Domestic Violence. It begins at 12:30 p.m. and includes a simple lunch at 12:15 p.m.. All are welcome. Admission is free.
