2 ORDINATIONS TO THE MAJOR ORDERS 2018 Dear Faithful, on behalf of the superiors of the Institute, I am very pleased to be able to share the following news concerning the ordinations this summer, to be held at the Institute s churches in Florence, Italy, and in Saint Louis. In addition to those who will be receiving the minor orders, eight men will be ordained as priests of Jesus Christ, five will be ordained as deacons and fifteen will be ordained as subdeacons. On Thursday August 2 nd HIS EMINENCE CARDINAL BURKE will ordain to the sacred priesthood the following: Rev. Mr. Peter Heidenreich (Illinois), Rev. Mr. Benjamin Norman (Virginia), Rev. Mr. Matthew Weaver (Ohio), and Rev. Mr. Luke Zignego (Wisconsin). In the same ceremony, Abbé Alex Barga, an oblate of the Institute, will be ordained to the subdiaconate. The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. on August 2 nd. As Saint Louis is not too far from Kansas City, we hope many of you will be able to attend the ceremony. This is a rare opportunity to attend one of the most important and beautiful rites of the Catholic liturgy a sign of hope in these troubled times. 5 PROPER ATTIRE IN CHURCH Now that the warmer weather has returned, a gentle timely reminder about the importance of coming to church modestly and decently dressed. This is a concrete way to honor the dignity of God s house, where Our Lord dwells in the tabernacle. Revealing or tightfitting clothing does not meet the norms for Christian modesty. Gentlemen and boys are encouraged to wear slacks (no shorts, please) and a dress shirt. Ladies and girls dresses or skirts should fall below the knee; the apostolic tradition of covering the head in church is very strongly encouraged. Thank you for expressing your love for God s house by your respectful demeanor in church. NEW SINGERS WELCOME! Sing to the Lord! 6 MAY CROWNING AND PROCESSION After the High Mass today, the statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be blessed and then crowned: Let us pray. Almighty everlasting God, who dost not forbid us to carve or paint likenesses of your saints, in order that whenever we look at them with our bodily eyes we may call to mind their holy lives, and resolve to follow in their footsteps; may it please you to bless and to hallow this statue which has been made in memory and honour of the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ. And grant that all who in its presence pay devout homage to the blessed Virgin, may by her merits and intercession obtain your grace in this life and everlasting glory in the life to come, through Christ our Lord. Amen. The procession with the statue of Our Lady will then go around church. The people are encouraged to join in singing the hymns, using the booklets provided. Upon returning to church, the priest leads the people in reciting the Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Most Holy Virgin Mary, tender Mother of men, to fulfill the desires of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the request of the Vicar of Your Son on earth, we consecrate ourselves and our families to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, O Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and we recommend to You, all the people of our country and all the world. Please accept our consecration, dearest Mother, and use us as You wish to accomplish Your designs in the world. O Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and Queen of the World, rule over us, together with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, Our King. Save us from the spreading flood of modern paganism; kindle in our hearts and homes the love of purity, the practice of a virtuous life, an ardent zeal for souls, and a desire to pray the Rosary more faithfully. We come with confidence to You, O Throne of Grace and Mother of Fair Love. Inflame us with the same Divine Fire which has inflamed Your own Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart. Make our hearts and homes Your shrine, and through us, make the Heart of Jesus, together with your rule, triumph in every heart and home. Amen. After the final recessional of the clergy, children may come and offer their flowers in the receptacle at the feet of Our Lady. 4

7 TRIDUUM OF MASSES FOR MOTHERS The Oratory is offering a Triduum (3 days) of Masses beginning today, Mother s Day, and ending next Tuesday. To enroll your mother in the Triduum, fill out her name (please indicate whether she is living or deceased) on the Mother s Day envelopes and include an offering. The envelopes then may be placed in the collection basket. Your mother s intentions will then be remembered in the Masses during the Triduum. There are also cards on the back table which you may insert into your Mother s Day cards. This is a great opportunity to thank your mother for all the wonderful things she has done for you and to pray for her. Mothers of the Visitation Meals for New Mothers and the Homebound Looking for an opportunity to perform a corporal work of mercy? Can you occasionally prepare a meal for a mother who has just given birth or for a homebound parishioner?
