HELP PROTECT THOSE WHO PROTECT US St. John Fisher Parish and School and 19th Ward Alderman Matt O Shea host the 4th Annual Mass and Pancake Breakfast benefitting the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation s Get Behind the Vest initiative this Sunday, February 18th. All are invited to attend 10:00 Mass honoring Chicago Police Officers. Pancake Breakfast will be served in Kane Hall - 8:00am-12:00Noon. Admission is $5.00 per person or $25.00 for families. All monies raised will be donated to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation s Get Behind the Vest Program which purchases new bullet proof vests for Chicago Police Officers. Invite your friends and neighbors to join us for Mass and then attend the pancake breakfast and support this worthwhile initiative. FISHERFEST 2018 September This all important fundraiser which provides such a fun environment for us to come together as a community and raises 10-15% of the overall parish operating income is in need of some help! Come join the fun, and fellowship, and help out other faithful parishioners pull together this great event. The first Fisherfest 2018 planning meeting is schedule for WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2018 in Kane Hall. We need some willing volunteers to co-chair the Kids Games on Washtenaw and the Raffle Committees. We are also looking for some operations help during the days leading up to the fest. If you have sometime during the day, and can help coordinate where equipment gets dropped off and placed, especially on Thursday of the fest, please sign up to help in this manner! If you have a friend or spouse who is up to the challenge come see what the commitment is, and if you could help out in these or other capacities. If you don t have a willing co-chair, come anyway, and we ll help you find one. And if you have any questions on what the time commitment might be for any of these roles, please or call us and we ll send you the low down Or perhaps you have suggestions on how we can make FisherFest even better. Come be part of the general committee to get your vote in. FisherFest is our main and sometimes only Parish fundraiser, please consider donating your time to help us with this wonderful event centered on Faith Family and of course Fun at St. John Fisher. SYMBOLON The Catholic Faith Explained Symbolon offers a complete program for adult catechesis, with written text, video and DVD and clear instructions for leading groups of adult learners, all at the service of the beauty and truth given us in divine revelation as interpreted by the Church. A beautiful liturgy celebrated by Father Charles Dahm, Archdiocesan Director of Domestic Violence Outreach providing insight into the impact of this issue on women in today s society. 4 PRO LABORE DEI The next trip to Robbins to serve the poor will be on Saturday, February 24th. Meet in the rectory basement at 10:00am to prepare lunches, clean up and head out by 11:00am. Help is needed with the following donations, assembling the lunches and volunteers to go to Robbins. If you can help with any of these, please contact our team. Donations: 12 loaves of white bread 13 med-large tomatoes 3 large heads of romaine lettuce 100 bags of chips 1 package of gallon size bags Assembling lunches: Trip to Robbins: people are need to help prepare and package lunches in the rectory basement. Help is needed driving and unloading donations and distributing lunches to the poor. Sanitary kits are always needed for men, women or children (ie: Toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, razors, shave cream, soap, shampoo, conditioner, chap stick, band aids, lotion, feminine products, wash cloths, wipes, first aid cream, sun block). During the winter months there is always a need for new warm socks in both children and adult sizes. Winter coats, boots, hats, gloves and blankets are always in demand. There is always an urgent need for diapers sizes, 3, 4, 5. Donations of warm clothing and shoes for the winter season especially for children are greatly appreciated. Please contact Amy (708) or Pam (773) LENTEN ALMSGIVING The forty days of Lent offers us an opportunity to deepen and strengthen our spiritual lives. We know that there are three important practices that deserve our special focus during this time: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. For several years during Lent, our parish family has identified a particular project or charity where we can direct our prayer and financial sacrifices. The focus of our Lenten almsgiving during Lent 2018 will once again be Taller de Jose. Taller de Jose is a community resource center located in the Little Village neighborhood. The center offers accompaniment to people in need, connecting people to services and services to people. Sponsored by the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Taller de Jose exists to fulfill the mission of Jesus, that all may be one. Please take advantage of this opportunity to provide help to the families in the Little Village community. COMMUNITY NEWS 28th Annual Tourney for Tommy Fundraiser to be held Sunday March 25th, Noon to 5pm at St. Rita High School (7740 South Western Avenue). All proceeds benefit the Tommy Finnegan Legacy Foundation to assist families whose children have suffered illness, rendering them physically or mentally challenged.
