3 RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS We are starting to anticipate the beginning of the R.C.I.A. sessions in October for those adults who would like to become Catholic. This is how someone becomes a Catholic. The R.C.I.A. process program is for: A non-baptized adult who is interested in the possibility of becoming Roman Catholic; An adult baptized in a Protestant tradition who wants to know more about Roman Catholicism and is considering becoming a Catholic; A baptized adult who has not had much Catholic education/formation and who would like to complete the Sacraments of Initiation (Confirmation and Eucharist). Anyone interested in knowing more should give Fr. Dan a call (773) Spread the word! Children s Faith Formation (C.F.F) : Religious Education begins on September 23 rd. We are excited to welcome students and families to a new year of Children s Faith Formation (C.F.F.) for grades 1-8. Classes begin on Sunday, September 23 rd at 8:45 in classrooms next to the Church. We schedule our classes on Sunday morning (8:45 9:45) to make it easy for children and families to attend the 10:00 a.m. Mass. Archdiocesan policy requires children to have 2 year of instruction before receiving the sacraments: Grades 1 and 2 for First Reconciliation and First Communion, and grades 7 and 8 for Confirmation. We look forward to great year for all our students. Registration begins on September 10 th. More details will follow. ATTENTION! If you are planning to volunteer and/ or coaching at St. John Fisher School this year, here are the Virtus Requirements: Attendance at a three hour Virtus workshop (virtusonline.org)(1 time requirement) Background check in Virtus (virtusonline.org)(1 time requirement) Acknowledgement that you have read and agree to the Archdiocesan Code of Conduct available on school web site (1 time requirement) Completion of a CANTS form available on school web site (turn in the form to school, DO NOT MAIL) (This is done annually every year) *You will receive an notification directing you to the Sexual Harassment training link when and if volunteers are included. It is important that you update your contact information so that you can rive the notification. *If you are coaching or serving as a catechist/scripture Safari Facilitator you must also complete the online Mandated Reporter Training. (archchicago.org protection of children to get link for mandated reporter training) (This is a 1 time requirement) These are firm requirements. There will be no exceptions to these requirements. MEMORIAL GARDEN ORDER FORMS AVAILABLE Our summer drive for orders for the St. John Fisher Memorial Garden is continuing. Orders will be engraved and set in place during the month of September. Forms are available in the rectory office and at the church entrances. It is our hope that this space will provide an opportunity for prayer and contemplation as we remember loved ones who hold a special place in our hearts and in the life of our parish community. ST. JOHN FISHER MUSIC MINISTRY Please join in the joy of singing in the St. John Fisher adult choir! Always looking for those of you who would be interested in singing for liturgies, special feast days, holy days and other special events. Choir season begins on Thursday, September 6th at 7:00pm as a special Meet and Greet, in the church, and official choir season kicks off on Thursday, September 20th at 7:00pm in church.. Regular rehearsals are on Thursday evenings in the church, from 7:00pm-9:00pm. We are planning a wonderful Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 11th (details to follow) and some other special events along the way. Afraid of commitment? We are very open to a very special group for Christmas and Easter who would love to sing, but don t have the year long availability. Please consider joining us in praise and song!
