3 THE FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY There is a tradition associated with the Feast of the Epiphany and we invite all our parishioners to adopt this custom in your family. The family gathers to ask God s blessing on their home and on those who live in or visit their home. It is an invitation for Jesus to be a daily guest in the home, the comings and goings, the conversations, the work, the play, the joys and sorrows. A traditional way of doing this is to use chalk to write above the homes entrance, 20+C+M+B+19. The letters, C, M, B have two meanings. They are the initials of the traditional names of the magi: Caspar, Melichior and Balthhazar. They also abbreviate the Latin words Christus mansionem benedicat, May Christ bless this house. The + signs represent the cross and 2019 is the year. Chalking the door is a way to celebrate and literally mark the occasion of the Epiphany and God s blessing of our lives and home. With time the chalk will fade. As it does let the meaning of the symbols written sink into the depths of our hearts and be manifest in our words and actions. Christus mansionem benedictat, May Christ bless this house. Pieces of blessed chalk are available at all the church exits, please take home a piece of chalk and chalk your door. 4 . QUEEN OF MARTYRS ADORATION CHAPEL Queen of Martyrs Adoration Chapel of Divine Mercy is located at South St. Louis in Evergreen Park. On December 12th, the chapel celebrated 25 years of having the chapel available for prayer 7 days a week from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Please consider offering one hour a week to Our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration. It is the best way to celebrate Jesus coming during the Christmas season. Adorers, prayer partners and substitutes are needed. You can pick the day and time that fits in your schedule. Please call Marion (708) for more details. THANK YOU! Father Perez Knights of Columbus Council #1444 thanks the pastors and parishioners of St. John Fisher, Christ the King, Most Holy Redeemer, Queen of Martyrs, St. Cajetan, and St. Christina for their support of the Illinois State Council s Vocation Support Program through the purchase of raffle tickets and donations. Because of this patronage the Council sent more than $2, to the State Council and provided seven seminarians with substantial financial support.
