2 From the desk of Father... Page 2 March 04, 2018 What does mercy look like? In a community in the South every Friday night a football game was played between a local high school team and players from the local youth detention facility. Every Friday evening the local high school football team s stands were full and the young offender s side was always empty. A local protestant pastor took note of that and asked his congregation if at the next game they would sit on the side of the young offenders. They objected because they of course wanted to root for their local high school team. The pastor then asked if half the congregation would sit on the young offender s side. Word of this spread through the community and on the evening of the next game when the young offenders took the field they were surprised to see their side of the bleachers was full with supporters. Early in the game when one of the young offenders was flagged for a penalty the fans for the young offenders booed loudly at the referees call. The young offenders were confused, unsure of what to make of this change. As the game progressed the fans for the young offenders cheered loudly at each play. The young offenders lost the game, but that night one young players said it felt like they won. He said the fans sounded like angels; he cried a lot that night because no one ever cheered for him before. Mercy is giving to others the opposite of what they deserve. On Divine Mercy Sunday April 8 th - the Women s Ministry are hosting their famous Muffin Delight Breakfast to support this years GET ON THE BUS EVENT uniting children with a parent in prison. 3 Parish & Community Activities Page 3 March 4, 2018 Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus will have their Feast of St. Patrick Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner, on the evening of Saturday, March 17th, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church (SCOA). Advance admission tickets:$18 ea and $9 ea for children(12years and younger). Tickets will be available from Knights hosting the Ham and Eggs Pancake Breakfast, for the St. Francis de Sales Religious Education Program this morning (7:30 AM - 11:30 AM at the Parish Hall) and again after Masses next weekend. Tickets can be purchase at the St. Catherine of Alexandria ministry Center, from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM., weekdays, through Friday, March 16. Do you think of God as truly good? Do you ever wonder where He is especially when things go wrong? Get these questions, and more, answered in the 6-week small group study based on The Shack movie. These weeks will consist of reflection and faith sharing on 5 scenes in the Shack movie. For the Third Week Join us this Monday, March 5 at 6:30 PM in the Parish Hall Group Facilitator: Deacon Joe St. Francis de Sales Ministry Fair Did you ever wonder what it takes to be a Eucharistic Minister? Ever wanted to do the Reading at Mass or sing in the Choir? Well this is your chance to find out! In the parish hall on Sunday, March 11th, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, will be our annual SFDS Ministry Fair. You can ask questions from the head of each ministries. Stop by and find out how you can answer God s call to serve Him through the various ministries at St. Francis de Sales. The Mass of the Anointing of the Sick On Saturday, March 17th, a Mass will be said at 8:00 AM for the Anointing of the Sick. All are welcome to attend this beautiful service.
