This season can be a powerful step in our spiritual growth if we express our repentance and acknowledge our sinfulness. St. Peter Chrysologus suggested, There are three things, which cause faith to stand firm, devotion to remain constant, and virtue to endure. They are prayer, fasting and mercy. Prayer is our conversation with God. It is through prayer that we find the strength to fast. It is through prayer that we develop a closer, more intimate relationship with God. This relationship makes us so grateful for the blessings he has bestowed upon us, that we eagerly give to those less fortunate than us. The Church, in her wisdom, understands that prayer is essential to any action of religious expression during Lent we Christians may undertake. In our busy world, Lent provides us with an opportunity to reflect upon our patterns and pray more deeply. Through prayer our innermost spirituality is renovated. The genuine prayer is opening our hearts to God and gives our good deeds during Lent a real value. The genuine prayer arises from pure heart and sincere conscience (Genesis 1: 16-18), demands the fulfillment of God s will (1 John 5:14), seeks first God s kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33), and surrenders ourselves to God s protection (James 4:7). May God teach us to daily seek His face with such a prayer so as to rejoice in Him. Amen. Fr. Tim ST. Do you want to learn more about the Social Teachings of the Church? If you answered yes to these questions, please consider joining a new ministry here in the parish called Social Concerns Ministry. This ministry will help our larger community to be aware of social issues that affect the daily lives of people in our community while educating others on the response of our Church. This weekend, Sunday March 27th at 2pm in the Upper room there will be a Social Concerns Ministry Meeting. A representative from the Diocesan Pastoral Center will be present to speak with the group about growing this very important ministry. Please join Fr. Lenten Project If you have decided what you are going to do this Lenten season, we invite you to take a leaf from our tree on the wall, and write your intentions.
