4 Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time November 8, 2015 VETERAN S DAY PROGRAM The Veteran's Day Program will be held at Sacred Heart School Elementary on November 11, The day will begin with a Celebration of the Mass at 8:10 A.M. in Sacred Heart Church, followed by a short reception in the cafeteria for our Veterans, their children and grandchildren. At the conclusion of the reception, we will transition to the elementary gym for our 2015 Veteran's Day program. Holy Father s Intentions for November Universal: That we may be open to personal encounter and dialogue with all, even those whose convictions differ from our own. Evangelization: That pastors of the Church, with profound love for their flocks, may accompany them and enliven their hope. Patriotic Rosary is held each Monday at 9am at the home of Lima Fusilier. In these times, with all the threats, turmoil and lack of Christianity which motivates so much hatred, our prayers are needed. Please consider giving an hour of your time to pray for our country. Contact Lima Fusilier with any questions at Ministry for the Dying: The members of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites, as sons and daughters of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, have a duty to pray for the salvation of souls. Because the most important hour of life is the hour of death, the Secular Carmelites from Ville Platte have chosen as their apostolate to pray for the souls of the dying. After calling a priest, if you would like for them to pray for someone who is near death, please call Karen at ALL CALLS ARE CONFI- DENTIAL. Souls. The Way of the Cross for Holy Souls is recited after Mass on Fridays in November. Everyone is invited to join the recitation of the Way of the Cross for the Holy GRANDPARENTS DAY Sacred Heart Elementary will honor grand parents Friday, November 20th, beginning with a presentation in the elementary gym from 9:00-10:00 A.M., followed by classroom visitations from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Elementary students will have a half day with dismissal at 12:00 noon Christmas Flowers Donations are being accepted for Christmas flowers in memory of loved ones. Donations may be put in an envelope, labeled in memory of and name of the donor. Or, come by the FLC, during business hours, and make your donation in memory of a loved one. The Holy Souls in Purgatory Since the 16th century Catholic piety has assigned entire months to special devotions. As a reminder of our duty to pray for the suffering faithful in Purgatory, the Church has dedicated the month of November to the Holy Souls. The Holy Souls are those who have died in the state of grace but who are not yet free from all punishment due to their unforgiven venial sins and all other sins already forgiven for which satisfaction is still to be made. They are certain of entering Heaven, but first they must suffer in Purgatory. The Holy Souls cannot help themselves because for them the night has come, when no man can work (John 9:4). It is our great privilege of brotherhood that we can shorten their time of separation from God by our prayers, good works, and, especially, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Prayer: INVOCATION Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen. FOR THE SOULS IN PURGATORY My Jesus, by the sorrows Thou didst suffer in Thine agony in the Garden, in Thy scourging and crowning with thorns, in the way to Calvary, in Thy crucifixion and death, have mercy on the souls in purgatory, and especially on those that are most forsaken; do Thou deliver them from the dire torments they endure; call them and admit them to Thy most sweet embrace in paradise. Our Father, Hail Mary, Eternal rest, etc. Prayer Source: Prayer Book, The by Reverend John P. O'Connell, M.A., S.T.D. and Jex Martin, M.A., The Catholic Press, Inc., Chicago, Illinois, 1954
