3 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Trip to Italy! On May 30- June 7, 2014 some young people from our area will be taking a pilgrimage to Italy. Father Mitch Guidry will be our spiritual Director. The cities and sites will include: Venice: Basilica of St. Anthony, Piazza San Marco, Gondola ride. Florence: Michelangelo s David, Piazza Del Duomo, Cathedral of Santa Maria Del Fiore, Baptistery of St. John Assisi: Basilica of St. Francis, Tomb of St. Francis, Basilica of St. Clare, San Damiano Rome and Vatican City : Basilica of St. Peter, Basilica of St. Mary Major, Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, Basilica of St. John Lateran, Coliseum, Pantheon, Roman Forum, Catacombs, Vatican Museum & Sistine Chapel, Peter in Chains, Michelangelo's Moses and the Trevi Fountain. January 22 marks the 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Since this tragic decision, over 55 million unborn children have been destroyed in the womb; 1.2 million abortions are performed each year. That s 3,228 per day, 137 per hour, 1 abortion every 26 seconds. This grim anniversary causes Americans of conscience to act. Some attend a local pro-life rally, others board a bus and travel through the night to the annual March for Life in Washington D.C. Ville Platte Christians will commemorate the decision with the annual Pro-Life Walk from Our Lady Queen of All Saints to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. You and your children are invited and encouraged to attend. We will pray the pro-life Rosary for an end to abortion in our nation and in the world. Following the walk we will have a Cody Reed, the Youth Programs Director from Louisiana Right to Life, as our guest speaker. The walk begins on Sunday, Jan. 26th, immediately following the 10:30 Mass at Our Lady Queen of All Saints in Ville Pla e. As for newborn babies, at first it was desired to wait until the following Easter, when they could be baptized, anointed with chrism, and given a taste of the Eucharist in association with adults. The Church was always willing to baptize adults in emergency situations outside the Easter timetable, and in time, since infancy itself was a lifethreatening situation, the baptism of babies became commonplace. As with the emergency adult baptisms, it was required that parents bring the child, as soon as health was recovered, to the bishop for the full menu of sacraments. The very real fear of death for infants thus created a situation in which the three sacraments drifted apart from each other, and away from their original, adult celebration at Easter. Today, at last, we know a great deal about how our practices evolved. Our Lady Queen of All Saints Church is proud to announce the beginning of a new adult education program: the Back-to-Basics Lecture Series. The series is designed for people who want to refresh their knowledge of the Faith; for people who are new to the Faith; or for people who simply loves learning more about the Faith. In other words, the Back-to-Basics Lecture Series is for everyone! 5 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time That Man is You! is a 26 week interactive men s program combining the best research from science with the teachings of the Catholic faith and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of a man fully alive. By honestly addressing the pressures and temptations that men face in our modern culture, the nationwide program called That Man is You! seeks to form men who will be capable of transforming homes and society. In a joint effort between the men of Our Lady Queen of All Saints and Sacred Heart Church Parishes, the Fall Sessions of TMIY was started in Ville Platte in early September of last year and was a huge success. The group had an average of well over 50 men attend each of the 13 Fall sessions. The 13 Spring Sessions will begin in early February and will include the bonus of a Lenten Journey during the weeks of Lent leading up to Good Friday and Easter. The Spring Sessions are open to all Men in the area, including those who were not able to join us during the Fall Sessions. 6 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time St. Agnes: Agnes is one of the most glorious saints in the calendar of the Roman Church. The greatest Church Fathers vie with one another in sounding her praise and glory.from such liturgical sources we may construct the following "life of St. Agnes". One day when Agnes, then thirteen years old, was returning home from school, she happened to meet Symphronius, a son of the city prefect. At once he became passionately attracted to her and tried to win her by precious gifts. Agnes repelled him, saying: "Away from me, food of death, for I have already found another lover" (r. Ant.). "With His ring my Lord Jesus Christ has betrothed me, and He has adorned me with the bridal crown" (3. Ant., Lauds). "My right hand and my neck He has encircled with precious stones, and has given me earrings with priceless pearls; He has decked me with lovely, glittering gems" (2. Ant.). "The Lord has clothed me with a robe of gold, He has adorned me with priceless jewels" (4. Ant.). "Honey and milk have I received from His mouth, and His blood has reddened my cheeks" (5. Ant.). "I love Christ, into whose chamber I shall enter, whose Mother is a virgin, whose Father knows not woman, whose music and melody are sweet to my ears. When I love Him, I remain chaste; when I touch Him, I remain pure; when I possess Him, I remain a virgin" (2. Resp.). "I am betrothed to Him whom the angels serve, whose beauty the sun and moon admire" (9. Ant.). "For Him alone I keep my troth, to Him I surrender with all my heart" (6. Ant.). Incensed by her rebuff, Symphronius denounced Agnes to his father, the city prefect. When he threatened her with commitment to a house of ill fame, Agnes replied: "At my side I have a protector of my body, an angel of the Lord" (2. Ant., Lauds). "When Agnes entered the house of shame, she found an angel of the Lord ready to protect her" (1. Ant., Lauds). A light enveloped her and blinded all who tried to approach. Then another judge condemned her to the stake because the pagan priests accused her of sorcery. Surrounded by flames she prayed with outstretched arms: "I beseech You, Father almighty, most worthy of awe and adoration. Through Your most holy Son I escaped the threats of the impious tyrant and passed through Satan's filth with feet unsullied. Behold, I now come to You, whom I have loved, whom I have sought, whom I have always desired." She gave thanks as follows: "O You, the almighty One, who must be adored, worshipped, feared - I praise You because through Your only begotten Son I have escaped the threats of wicked men and have walked through the filth of sin with feet unsullied. I extol You with my lips, and I desire You with all my heart and strength." After the flames died out, she continued: "I praise You, Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, because by Your Son the fire around me was extinguished" (4. Ant., Lauds). And now she longed for union with Christ: "Behold, what I yearned for, I already see; what I hoped for, I already hold in embrace; with Him I am united in heaven whom on earth I loved with all my heart" (Ben.
