1 PRAYER PARTNERS NEEDED: There are many Holy Hours with only 1 adorer. A prayer partner for these adorers would enable them to depend on each other and allow more flexibility with their schedule. ADORATION CHAPEL The Perpetual (24 hours) Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is available to us at Mercy Regional Hospital Chapel. If you are interested in becoming a regularly scheduled adorer or a substitute adorer, please phone for more information. As Bishop Fulton J. Sheen called it The Hour of Power! We are in need of adorers for the following times: Every other Saturday morning at 4:00am Every other Friday evening at 9:00pm Wednesday morning at 3:00am *LOOKING FOR NEW DIVISIONAL LEADERS OF OUR PERPETUAL ADORATION MINISTRY* We are in need of two new Divisional Leaders one for the afternoon segment (12:00 noon 6:00pm) and one for the evening segment (6:00pm- 12:00 midnight). The adorers are all in place, but you would be their go to person if they need help finding a replacement. You would be instructed in all you may have to do and know. You will be rewarded spiritually if you take on this challenge. In November we will be celebrating 28 years of Perpetual Adoration and you could be an important part of this! For more information, please call Pitchy Tuminaro, coordinator, at Come Holy Spirit! SUNDAY: 10 SEPTEMBER: 23RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, Today Jesus gives us a plan for forgiveness and reconciliation. First we always try to deal directly with the person involved. If that doesn t work then others can be asked to help facilitate. Finally Jesus says to get the Church involved. We have had that recently when Bishop Deshotel made a decision about the purported private revelations of Thomas Mac Smith. Here is Bishop Deshotel s announcement: Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel informs all clergy and lay faithful of the Diocese of Lafayette that Mr. Thomas Mac Smith is prohibited from speaking, disseminating any printed materials, or exercising any ministry or apostolate in any parish, school or Catholic institution in the Diocese of Lafayette. In particular he is not to promote alleged spiritual messages, soaking prayer, apparitions, locutions, or visions etc. by means of any Catholic entity in the Diocese of Lafayette. All clergy and lay faithful who are in communion with the Church are to abstain from participating in those activities and from any involvement in the spreading of Mr. Thomas Mac Smith s writings, teachings or alleged spiritual messages. For those who are disappointed by this decision, I encourage you to seek security in Jesus Christ, the Sacraments, and the Scriptures. I know this will be difficult for some of you, but the true sign of the Holy Spirit is obedience to church authority. There are a few good critiques of the writings of Mac Smith on the internet. Thursday night we have a Confirmation parent meeting at 6:00pm in the Commons at the High School. Then at 6:30pm we will have a First Communion parent meeting in the Commons at the High School. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) will be starting soon. This is for non-catholics who are considering becoming Catholic. Would you please reach out to them since they will probably not be reading this column? Tell them to come and see like Jesus told the apostles. RCIA is also for Catholics who need First Communion and/or Confirmation. RCIA is also for confirmed Catholics who just want to learn more about their faith. Please call me to register. Classes will be on Tuesday nights starting at some point in September. We are looking for new altar servers to serve at our Masses for 4th grade boys & girls on up. The training will be Wednesday, October 4th in the evening, but you must first call the rectory to sign up. This is a beautiful way to serve the Lord and to learn it at a young age. For those ladies that did not get into the ACTS Retreat, our next one for women will be February 15-18th. Please mark your calendars and try again. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Thomas Voorhies
