1 July 2018 Newsletter St. Paul Lutheran Church 602 Morgan Blvd. Harlingen, TX Welcome Pastor Franco In the next few weeks Pastor Mauricio Franco and Gladys will be making the move to Harlingen! In order to make them feel welcome here we are having an old-fashioned pounding to help them get set up in their new home. A pounding is a an old Quaker term which came from giving a pound of this or that (flour, corn, sugar, etc). Our pounding for our new Pastor and his family will include nonperishable items, cleaning supplies, and of course nothing beats gift cards to let them get what they need and to introduce them to restaurants in Harlingen! Items can be dropped off at the church office any time! Ordination & Installation Dinner Make plans to join us as Pastor Franco is installed as our Associate Pastor in a special service on July 1st at 5pm here at St. Paul followed by a fellowship potluck dinner after the service to welcome Pastor and Gladys! The main dish (meat) will be provided. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish and a salad or dessert. Your information is requested! Dear St. Paul Family, In our response last year to the Hurricane we learned some valuable lessons from those that we served especially in Victoria and Rockport. One of those lessons is having accurate records on your people and there emergency contacts. The sole purpose of the form is to help the ministerial and/or administrative staff reach you or your emergency contact(s) in the event of a personal emergency (fire, stroke, etc.) or to locate you to assure your safety in the event of a local emergency, such as a hurricane evacuation or hurricane disaster. The information provided will be added to our church records about you and your family. Share your information by filling out the emergency form at splch.breezechms.com/ form/d58a4b or to request a paper version contact Peggy at or church@splch.com Call Received On June 17th Our Father Lutheran Church in Centennial, Colorado issued a Divine Call to Kayla Brock as Director of Student Ministries. During the next few weeks Kayla will be discerning through prayer and conversation with y'all about this call as well as her current call to St. Paul. Be sure to let her know your thoughts in person or via as we surround this process in prayer.

We are indeed Lutheran Women in Mission. Praise be to God! 3 SUNDAY BIBLE STUDY & SUNDAY SCHOOL Will be on Summer Break and will resume in August. Lutheran Encounter w/christ August Mission, Texas Lutheran encounter with Christ is a unique retreat for spiritual renewal and leadership training. It is bi-cultural and multigenerational. It is open to lay and clergy in the Lutheran church. It is led by people who have participated in the retreat. It begins Thursday night and ends on Sunday late afternoon. Suggested donation for retreat is $85, but please do not allow finances to keep you from the weekend. Registration forms and more information is available in the church office.
