At the minimal level, the student: RECONCILIATION: o Understands the Sacrament of Reconciliation forgives sins committed after Baptism and sorrow for sin is the most important part. o Understands God is always ready to forgive us and the Sacrament of Reconciliation is a sacrament of conversion. o Knows how to prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, how to examine of conscience and how to make a confession. o Understands the significance of penance. o Understands the Holy Spirit remains with us to help us grow and become more like Jesus. EUCHARIST: o Understands that the Eucharist is the real Body and Blood of Christ. o Knows how to receive Holy Communion, with reverence. o Has the desire to receive Holy Communion. o Participates appropriately in Mass, given the age, mental and physical capacity of the student. 2. At the common level, the student masters the minimal level, plus: ON SACRAMENTS o Knows that the Eucharist, together with Baptism and Confirmation, are sacraments of initiation. o Understands sacraments are celebration with meaningful and effective rituals (e.g., gestures, prayers) and symbols (e.g., water, white garment) instituted by Christ and celebrated in the Church to bestow the grace for our salvation. ON THE EUCHARIST o Understands as a banquet, in remembrance of Jesus last supper with his disciples. o Believes as presence of Christ, as in his Word and in the community gathering in His name. o Experiences as a source of healing and consolation. 3. At the advanced level, the student also: Desires to join Christ and the Church in bringing forgiveness, healing, peace and health to all. Connects Reconciliation and the Eucharist with the work of mercy and social justice. Continues to grow in developing relationship with God and with others, with a healthy acceptance of one s sinful self. Updated TC Page 1
