In both cases, Jesus was implored to heal someone by another and he answered affirmatively. Today s questions: Do I know anyone for whom I ought to pray? What is my prayer for them? 3 Memorial The flowers in Church today are in memory of Patrick King son of Jennifer King and nephew of Gabrielle Prayer for a Rector before the Blessing Bountiful God, grant to St Mark's a faithful pastor and teacher who will speak your word and minister your sacraments; an encourager who will empower your people for ministry and enable us to fulfil your calling. Give to those who will choose a rector, your heavenly wisdom, discernment and patience, and to all of us give warm and generous hearts, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Anglican Communion PRAY for The Anglican Church of TanzaniaThe Most Revd Valentino Mokiwa Archbishop of Tanzania & Bishop of Dar-es-Salaam Thanksgiving for the life and faith of holy people (Tuesday) Mother Esther CHN, founder of the Community of the Holy Name in Melbourne (d.1931) This Anglican religious order continues its ministry in Melbourne today. (Monday) Cyprian of Carthage, bishop & martyr (d.258) Cyprian was born around 200AD in North Africa, of pagan parents. He became a prominent lawyer and teacher of rhetoric. Around 246 he became a Christian, and in 248 was chosen Bishop of Carthage. A year later the persecution under Emperor Decius began, and Cyprian went into hiding. He was severely censured for leaving his flock, but argued his survival was for the long-term good of the church. After the persecution had 3

4 died down, it remained to consider how to deal with those Christians who had denied the faith under duress. Cyprian held that they ought to be received back into full communion after a suitable time of penance. Later, another persecution arose, and this time Cyprian did not flee. He was arrested, tried, and finally beheaded on 14 September 258. (Saturday) John Oliver Feetham, bishop & bush brother (d.1947) The Bush Brothers exercised an important ministry earlier last century in establishing and ministering in congregations in outback Australia. Jennifer King Petition Alwy Fadhel has expressed appreciation, on receiving the petition of 20 of St Mark's members requesting that he be released into community on humanitarian grounds. St Mark s Annual Fete next Saturday The Fete is next Saturday and we want it to be a great success. Friday morning from 9.00am will be the time when able bodied people can be of assistance in setting up the tables and tressles for the stalls. If you can give even an hour of your time this will help. Also at the close of the fete a lot of help will be required to get the hall clean and tidied ready for Sunday. Chime ringers The bell ringers have established a new team of 'chime ringers' to add to the ministry of music at St Mark's. Chimes are different to handbells, have their own charm and are easier to handle. Practices follow the 10am Sunday service. Adults and younger folk interested in joining the team, please contact Judith or Peg otassistgrip@oz .com.au Taizé prayer station Until recently, we have been fortunate that Jean Hill has been keeping us supplied with 'tea lights' for the prayer station we have appreciated her contribution. We are now looking for a person to care for the prayer station, including: purchasing candles (reimbursement available); replacing burnt-out candles; cleaning and making tidy. If you are interested in contributing in this way, please contact Bruce Cooke.
