3 Dear Parishioners, Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ ~Ephesians 4:32 I remember sharing the following story of reconciliation with parents several years ago when preparing the children of our parish for First Reconciliation. Our Lenten journey calls us to repentance, but also reminds us to accept the gift of forgiveness and to be reconciled with Christ, with each other, and with the Church. The story goes like this. A much-love priest once carried a secret burden of long-past sin buried deep in his heart. He had committed the sin many years before his seminary training. No one knew what he had done, but they did know he had repented. Even so, he had suffered years of remorse over the incident without any sense of God s forgiveness. A woman in his parish deeply loved God and claimed to have visions in which Jesus Christ spoke to her. The priest, skeptical of her claims, asked her, The next time you speak to the Lord, would you please ask Him what sin your priest committed before he was in seminary? The woman agreed. The priest continued, Well, what did He say? He said, I don t remember. That is the true gift of reconciliation. Jesus hears our sins, accepts our remorse as we confess, and absolves us of the pain and shame repeating Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin any more. Peace, Gloria Nolan, Pastoral Minister Sr. Marla s Sunday Bulletin Letter last weekend contained an invitation for foot washing on Holy Thursday. We invite you to prayerfully consider being part of this powerful example of service and humility. This year during the service, we will invite any who desire to come forward to have their feet washed or to wash the feet of another. When she came to the parish a few days later the priest asked, Did He visit you? She said, Yes. And did you ask Him what sin I committed? Yes, I asked Him, she replied.

4 The Divine Mercy Chaplet Sunday, April 28 at 8am Please join us to pray The Chaplet of Divine Mercy in celebration of God s unfathomable mercy and love. Where, if not in the Divine Mercy, can the world find refuge and the light of hope? St. Pope John Paul II When does life begin? At conception. God creates our soul at conception and our soul is immortal. The U.S. Senate recently failed to pass the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, legislation that would prohibit infanticide by ensuring that a baby born alive following an attempted abortion would receive the same degree of care as would be given to any other baby born alive at the same gestational age. Jesus, Lord of Life, transform all hearts to recognize that infanticide is wrong and must not be tolerated. Open all hearts to recognize and defend the precious gift of all human life from womb to tomb. This 24-Hour a Day Vigil Is Ongoing until April 14 Join the SEAS team on Friday, April 12 from 10-11am. Or join any other time you re available as this vigil is 24 hours a day at the corner of Oneida St. and Plymouth Rock Terrace near Red Robin and Planned Parenthood, 2605 S. Oneida St., Ashwaubenon. ~Last Weekend s~ World s Poor Collection: $6, Thank you! Your gift helps people living in poverty in our country and abroad. If you didn t give a gift and would like to, we ll take contributions until April 14. For your convenience, there are extra envelopes in the hospitality area. Your gift can be sent to the parish office or put in an envelope labeled World s Poor Collection and included in the offertory at Mass. Unplanned is a movie in theaters now that reveals the truth about abortion and Planned Parenthood as experienced by one of their former clinic directors. Lawmakers can pass the Life at Conception Act and end abortion by using the Constitution instead of amending it. The Life at Conception Act changes the focus of the abortion debate and takes the Supreme Court out of the equation and places responsibility on the shoulders of our elected representatives who, unlike life-term judges, respond to grass-roots pressure. Act NOW and urge your elected officials to pass the Life at Conception Act. Call and insist that your Congress representative cosponsor S. 231/H.R. 681 and H.R. 586.

5 April 2019 IN THE Unplanned seeks to make abortion unthinkable, says Abby Johnson BY AMANDA LAUER FOR THE COMPASS APPLETON For a long time, people have been waiting for this legislative cavalry to show up and, with one sweep of their swords, make abortion illegal. I think it s pretty clear that that isn t going to happen, said Abby Johnson, whose life story is depicted in the movie, Unplanned, which opens nationwide on March 29. We have to start focusing on making abortion unthinkable in our society, our communities and our churches, Johnson told The Compass in a telephone interview March 13. That is exactly what Johnson hopes will happen after people see Unplanned, which is adapted from her best-selling book, Unplanned: The Dramatic True Story of a Former Planned Parenthood Leader s Eye-Opening Journey across the Life Line. The movie offers a stark depiction of what goes on in an abortion facility and the abortion industry itself. Johnson, during her eight-year career with CNS PHOTO COURTESY UNPLANNED Abby Johnson, left, is seen on the set of the movie Unplanned with actress Ashley Bratcher, who plays her. The movie details the story of Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood administrator who quit that job to join the pro-life movement after her upclose interaction with abortion. Planned Parenthood, was the youngest person to be appointed director of one of their clinics. She quit her job in October 2009 after participating in an abortion procedure for the fi rst time. Unplanned is billed as a prolife movie, but Johnson knows that people from both sides of the abortion debate will be in the audience. Screenings of the movie have shown promising results, she said. We ve already heard stories of people who are prochoice who have gone to various screenings and said, My opinion has now changed on abortion, Johnson added. Our full story appears in the March 22 issue. FRANKLY, FRANCIS Dear Brothers and Sisters, In our continuing catechesis on the Our Father, we now turn to the third invocation, thy will be done. We see God s will revealed in the person of Jesus: to seek out and to save that which is lost. If we do not appreciate this we risk misunderstanding the meaning of the third aspect of the Our Father. We can affi rm, however, without a doubt, that God s will is indeed for the salvation of all mankind. Our prayer, then, is offered by children who know their Father s heart and are certain of his loving plan. This prayer, moreover, inspires in us the same desire for the Father s will as we see in Jesus, especially when, in the garden of Gethsemane, he prayed, Father, if you are willing, remove this chalice from me; nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done (Lk Follow Him On + Pope Francis, March 20, 2019 BY BOB ZYSKOWSKI FOR THE COMPASS OSHKOSH Four-year-olds in Shawano made a special gift to people in faraway Bolivia this winter. Llamas. Three of them. Thanks to fundraising by the 4K class at Sacred Heart School, three Bolivian families will be able to purchase the animals that Llamas for Love project a success at Shawano school support their unique culture. Along the way in their Llamas for Love project, the 12 little ones in Michelle Powers class learned about that culture, could point to Bolivia on a map, practiced public speaking, worked on their printing skills and came to understand how they could follow Jesus teaching to love and help others. Powers, a second-year teacher, said she was looking for a community service project that her young pupils could do. Classes throughout Sacred Heart had already taken on a number of service projects and there have been a variety of school-wide activities, too. Searching the diocesan World Mission Services Project booklet, produced by the Catholic Foundation, The llamas project caught my eye, Powers told The Compass. The goal of $100 for a Bolivian family to buy a llama seemed doable, and I knew llamas would defi nitely appeal to the kids. Our full story appears in the March 15 issue.

6 5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW Divine Mercy PATRICIA KASTEN THE COMPASS 1 Divine Mercy Sunday was designated by St. John Paul II in It falls on the Sunday after Easter Sunday: the Second Sunday of Easter, which has also been known as Low Sunday. 2 Jesus as Divine Mercy is based on the private visions of St. Faustina Kowalska of Vilnius, Poland. 3 In 1934, St. Faustina s confessor, Fr. Michael Sopocko, commissioned a painted image of Divine Mercy. 4 The image of Divine Mercy shows Jesus heart pouring out two rays of light one red and one pale in color. In a vision, St. Faustina said Jesus explained that the two rays denote blood and water. 5 The Novena (nine days of special prayer) of Divine Mercy begins on Good Friday. Subscribe: Save $5 NOW! Please mail $23 payment to: Unplanned : The truth about abortion Dear brothers and sisters in Christ: R ecently I viewed the movie, Unplanned, which tells the extremely powerful story of Abby Johnson and her journey from an entry-level employee with Planned Parenthood to the director of the clinic where she had her own personal experience of abortion earlier. Abby recounts her thinking, coping mechanisms and struggles to be set free from the clutches of this industry. Through accompaniment by Shawn Carney, the founder BISHOP S of 40 Days for Life, his wife and the group that prayed CORNER for her without judgment, Bishop David Abby was able to experiricken ence the mercy of God and helped to transition out of the snares of the abortion industry. Abby is one courageous woman. She is taking the remorse for her involvement in this industry and turning it into helping people see this for what it really is. Most people do not want to end their baby s life but are caught in the vortex of pressure, real and feared, and then walked through this decision through the misuse of compassionate language to give cover to their activities. The message of the movie is not to judge the women who find themselves in this situation, but to love them enough to show them the truth about abortion. The relentless push to sanction abortion by state and national leaders, funded by very large donors who make their donations in the name of women s rights, completely ignores the loss of life of the most voiceless and defenseless. Now as we see in New York, some are trying to justify abortion through all stages of the pregnancy and even questioning whether babies born alive during abortion deserve to receive proper medical care. In doing so, abortion advocates not only ignore the rights of the baby in the womb, they back women into a corner, leading them to believe that the only way they can maintain their own freedom is by taking away the life of their child. You see, babies are not the only victims of the abortion industry. This industry victimizes the mothers, the fathers, the siblings, the grandparents and even the workers themselves. As a tool of the culture of death, abortion infects our entire society. This is why the Catholic Church has remained firm in its commitment to life in all its stages. We must commit ourselves to praying for all people who are affected by abortion, for the babies, their mothers, the family members and even the providers. The entire column appears in our March 22 issue. Parish SNAPSHOT P.O.
