G.K., Mike Miller Thank you to Knights of Bishop Pappin Council and their families who helped get the ball ready for our dinner and to the members who bought and cooked the meal, couldn't of done it without you. A big thanks to all those individuals who took a few hours of their day to serve during the meal and help clean up after the meal was over. Especially, a huge thank you to all who attended the meal and came out in that cold weather to support our council. We can't have the Ham Dinner without you. Knowing that we will see you there is what makes us feel excited to put on the meal every Month. We would love to see all of you again so come out, to come together with family and friends enjoy a fantastic supper and share each other's company. Our next supper will be held Feb 4th Can't wait to see you there. Grand Knight, Mike Miller God Bless that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. John: 1:1-4. In Advent, the Church urges us to do two things: one, to take a break from the noise, the ceaseless activity; and two, to fight the indolence that keeps us from entering into ourselves, into that core of our spiritual beings where the heart meets God, and with whose help we are able to gauge what in life is worth waiting for. Let us, every Advent, learn to ask Him to teach us to prayerfully wait, to wait with purpose for all the good things His mighty hand has for us in this life and in the next. As members of Life is Precious Ministry, we encourage you to answer the call of the late Archbishop Fulton Sheen, to spiritually adopt a child in the womb who is in danger of being aborted. To do this, give this baby a name and pray for him or her. There are slips at the entrance of the church on which to write the chosen name of your baby for whom you will be praying. Prayer cards are also available. A Mass will be celebrated for these babies on December 28th. Fact: Since it s legalization in 1969, 4 million Canadian babies have died from elective abortions. 5 Advent: Learning to Wait Who likes to wait? In this fast-paced era that we live, waiting seems like the ninny thing to do. Action is the strong thing to do. Move, lunge, act, grab, get things done that s push. Ok. To wait a little is doable, even commendable; say five minutes, even ten. But after that, come on! Let s do something about it! Of course there is the lazy kind of waiting, the waiting of the indolent, the slothful, those for whom any form of action spells suffering beyond endurance. But that s not the kind of waiting I m talking about; not even the former; but the kind that waits with great purpose. There are times in life, that the quality of the goal requires waiting. Sometimes, if we reach a precious goal too quickly, we tend to undervalue it. How many times we see the very young enter marriage without due preparation, only to divorce a couple of years later? Was it the fault of the great Sacrament they entered into? Or the fact they didn t wait long enough, and didn t prepare sufficiently for so priceless a gift? There was the time not so long ago, when credit cards weren t the norm, when something precious and costly came with a lot of saving and waiting. Once purchased, the acquisition retained such value, that it was passed on as an heirloom, and became a family tradition. Waiting with purpose is a strong thing to do, a wise thing to do. While we wait we endure. While we wait we mature. While we wait we tame, and purify the fires of desire, and with clearer minds, adjust our perception and our expectation. If what we wait for is the real McCoy, we ultimately come to it with love, augmented by respect. If a fizz-out, we say a prayer of thanksgiving that we dodged that path. It is so with Advent. Advent reminds us of the long historical period of waiting for the promised Messiah, the expected of Nations, the Savior, the Emmanuel, God with us. Every Jewish child grew up under that great wait. And now that Christ Jesus has come, the Church likes to remind us of that period of waiting for the greatest gift the world has ever and will ever receive, the gift of God walking in the flesh alongside us, and remaining with us in the Eucharist. In Advent, the Church invites us to take notice of that long wait for He of whom the Evangelist says: In the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God and the Word was God all things were made through Him, and without Him was made nothing FINAL REMINDER. USHERS, WELCOMERS, EUCHARISTIC MININISTERS & LECTORS LITURGY SCHEDULES We still have some openings please contact the parish office: December 24th Christmas Eve: 4:00 p.m. Need 2 more EMHC, 1 more Usher 10:00 p.m. Need 1 more Lector, 1 more Usher December 25th Christmas Day: 1 more EMHC & 2 Ushers January 1st New Year s Day: 10:00 a.m. Need 1 more Lector, 1 more Usher ***NOTE: New schedules for JANUARY & FEBRUARY will be prepared by Dec., 10th please contact Cathy with any dates you are not available to volunteer. As The Word Among Us expresses the love of Mary for her Son Jesus, it invites us to prepare our hearts amidst the busyness of the Advent season. What better way to prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas, but to sit with Him in the quietness of the Adoration Chapel to thank and praise Him for all that we have. Jesus invites you to come with your mother, your father, your children, grandchildren, friends and spend 5 minutes, 10 minutes, however long you wish. Those who spend time with Him, can tell you stories of the many blessings they have received and as the saying goes, you can t out give the Giver. The Chapel hours are 6:00 a.m. to 12 midnight, 7 days a week. Spend some time with Jesus. - Christmas Flower Memorials: Donations to the Memorial Flower gift fund will be used to purchase flowers and decorations for the church and Sanctuary during the Christmas season. The Church will be decorated in memory of your loved one and their name will be published in our Christmas Bulletin. Our 10:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass will be offered for them. All donations will be credited to your income tax receipt at year end. ***Note there are envelopes for the FLOWER FUND located on the table in the entrance of the Church or if you use parish donations envelopes there is a special envelope for Dec 9th both envelopes have spaces to mark down your intentions on the envelope or you can use this format in any envelope: Christmas Flowers in Memory of: Your Name Envelope # Address: Postal Code: Phone #: Donation Amount $ If your donation is in memory of a loved one, be sure to print their name(s).
