The Adult Study Group resumes The Adult Study Group resumes on Tuesday February 24 at 7 pm in the Fireside Room on the lower level (please use Duke Street entrance). Our Lenten study is a fiveweek session titled, "The Jesus Fatwah". Fatwah n. a spiritually instructive opinion, usually given as the answer to a question about religious law. When asked to name the greatest commandment, Jesus issued a fatwah: "Love God with every fibre of your being, and love your neighbour as you love yourself." This is a dynamic 5- session programme, developed by Living the Questions, that takes Jesus' admonition to love our neighbours as we love ourselves seriously - given (and in these times, especially) if that neighbour is Muslim. Please plan to join us on this exciting journey of discovery. TOLLE LEGE TAKE UP AND READ Visit the new church library in the upper parish hall. Consider... 8 Lenten Bible Study with Bishop Dance By Matt Gardner A new contextual Bible study is set to bring the message of the scriptures to Anglicans and Lutherans in a relevant, accessible way this Lenten season. Endorsed by members of the Joint Anglican-Lutheran Commission (JALC), the shared resource is available free online and represents another initiative in the full communion partnership between the Anglican Church of Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC). The Rt. Rev. Terry Dance, Bishop of Norfolk in the Diocese of Huron and a member of JALC, prepared the study for Lent during a sabbatical to help church members engage with each other and the biblical text while providing guidance to ministry in their own lives. This study is designed specifically for a church in the Canadian context, dealing with the kind of issues that we re dealing with, Bishop Dance said. 9 The Church of St. John the Evangelist A Commissioning of New Ministries: Church Wardens Members of our Parish Council Anglican Church Women Executive February 8, 2015 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. 1 Corinthians 12:4 & 5
10 Commissioning for Church Wardens Members of our Parish Council Anglican Church Women Executive February 8, 2015 Rector: Brothers and sisters in Christ, we are all baptized by the one Spirit into one body, and given gifts for a variety of ministries for the common good. Our purpose as a Parish is to be a vibrant presence in downtown Kitchener where diverse people are welcomed into a loving community that worships God, is growing in faith, and serves others in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Our purpose today is to recognize and affirm the ministries for which these persons have been elected and appointed at the Annual Vestry Meeting of our Parish. Is it your will that these people fulfill the ministries to which they have been elected and appointed? People: It is. The Rector addresses those to be commissioned. You have been called to this ministry. Will you, as long as you are engaged in this work, perform it with care, to the honour of God and the benefit of the Church? Candidates: I will.
11 The Rector addresses the congregation. Will you uphold these people in these ministries of leadership, stewardship and responsibility? People: We will. The Rector continues: Let us pray, Blessed are You, gracious God, our Creator and Redeemer. In every age You call people To minister in Your name. May the work of these Your servants so build up Your church, that we may faithfully serve You and show Your love in all the world. Blessed are You, O God, now and forever. Amen. The Wardens wands will be presented. Rector: The Lord enable and uphold you in this ministry. Let us seek God s help that we may remain faithful to Christ Jesus in all our endeavours. All: Almighty God, By Your grace alone we are accepted and called to Your service. Strengthen us by Your Holy Spirit and make us worthy of Your calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. The newly commissioned members return to their places.
