Silence Advent Candle Lighting The second candle of Advent is the Candle of Peace. Peace is a word that we hear a lot. It is one of the things that we hope for. Christ brought peace when he first came to us and he will bring everlasting peace when, he comes again. (a person lights the candle of peace) We light the candle of peace to remind us that Jesus is the Prince of Peace and that through him peace is found. Congregation - Let us pray: Thank you God for the peace you give us. Help us to prepare the way for your coming with your peace. IN THE ANGLICAN CYCLE OF PRAYER PRAY for the Diocese of Western North Carolina in The Episcopal Church (USA), for Bishop Jose Antonio McLoughlin, and for the clergy and people of this diocese, and our common mission and ministry. PRAY for Linda, our Diocesan Bishop; Fred, our Primate; Mark, National Anglican Indigenous Bishop; Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Susan, National Bishop, and Michael, Bishop of the Eastern Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. In the Anglican Church of Canada we pray this week for the Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, The Most Reverend Fred Hiltz, and for his staff. In the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada we pray for the National Bishop Susan Johnson and the national staff of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. As we enter this season of waiting, when darkness lengthens, pray for all who are homeless, and who live in substandard accommodation. Pray also for those for whom this season is anything but joy-filled. May they know your love, peace, and comfort. 8 Advent Longing - An Invitation from our Bishop. We are encouraged by Bishop Linda to pause daily to spend 15 minutes with God in prayer, reflecting on the selected Collects and Scriptures. ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST Lessons & Carols Sunday, December 17, :00 PM CHRISTMAS MEMORIAL FLOWERS: Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation towards the Christmas flowers in memory of loved ones, please use the envelopes marked Christmas Memorial Flowers. These envelopes are on the table in the Narthex. Please print clearly the information requested, and then place the envelope on the offering plate OR deliver it to the church office no later than Sunday December 18th. If you are donating by cheque, please make it payable to St. John s ACW. The memory (prayer) candles, located on the table by St. Aidan s altar, are used by many of our parishioners on a regular basis. Please consider helping the Altar Guild to defray the cost of these candles. Envelopes for your donation are on the table in the upper Narthex and all donations are very much appreciated. Host Families Needed for Japanese guests, two sessions: 1. January 27-Feb 3 (One week--high School Students) And/Or 2. February (Two weeks--university Students) Remuneration is provided. Students have class from 9-3 M-F at St. John s Anglican Church in downtown Kitchener. Host families are asked to provide three meals a day (brown bag lunch on weekdays). High school students will need to be driven to and from the church. The university students can go by car or public transportation. This program is sponsored by the International Understanding Promotion Council, a Non-Profit Organization based in Japan and though NAST Homestay which has been doing cultural exchanges and English language programs since Join the fun!
