(Psalm 122:1) Easter comes early this year, Sunday April 1. The date of Easter varies because Easter occurs on the Sunday after the first full moon in Spring. When Easter comes early, so do Ash Wednesday and the church season of Lent. This year, Ash Wednesday is on Valentine s Day, February 14. As is our custom, we offer extra opportunities for worship in Lent. Here s what we have planned: Ash Wednesday, February 14 6:00 Pancake Supper 7:00 Worship with the Imposition of Ashes Wednesdays in Lent, February 21 through March 21: 6:00 Simple Supper 7:00 Evening Prayer Continuing in the Covenant of Your Baptism Palm-Passion Sunday, March 25: 9:00 Breakfast 10:00 Worship with Procession of Palms Maundy Thursday, March 29: 6:00 Chaburah Meal Stripping of the Altar Good Friday, March 30: 10:00 Worship Easter Sunday, April 1: 9:00 Breakfast with Trinity Anglican 10:00 Festive Easter Worship Please consider joining us for these faith-nurturing events. 2 SLEEPING CHILDREN A ROUND THE WORLD St. Paul s Sunday School s Outreach Project During the month of February, our Sunday School is once again doing a project to help Sleeping Children Around the World. Through various activities at home, the children will be collecting coins to help purchase bedkits for children in need. Each bedkit costs $35. Bedkits vary from country to country depending on local needs, but usually include: mat or mattress, pillow, sheet, blanket, mosquito net (if applicable), clothes outfit, towel, and school supplies. (For more information go to This is the tenth year that our Sunday School, with the help of the congregation, will collect for SCAW. So far we have donated enough money to buy 166 bedkits. Hopefully this year we will get to 200 bedkits! The Sunday School children are once again asking the congregation to help with this year s project. The children are very appreciative of your support. If you would like to help out this year, you can put your donation into an envelope with your name and indicate Sleeping Children Around the World (or just put SCAW ) on it. Put the donation onto the offering plate. We thank you for your continued support of this project! 4 Dear friends: Grace be yours and peace. This letter is written to invite laypersons of the Eastern Synod, ELCIC, and the Diocese of Niagara, Anglican Church of Canada to attend a spiritual retreat. This year, our Spiritual Director will be Rev. David Maginley. David is a spiritual counsellor with the cancer, palliative and ICU programs at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and author of Beyond Surviving: Cancer and Your Spiritual Journey. David has also survived cancer four times, which resulted in a profound near-death experience and explorations in the nature of consciousness and the connection of body, mind and spirit. He knows what it s like to have cancer from both sides of the hospital bed, and has a sense of this life from both sides of the veil. David is ordained with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, a specialist with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care, member of the Canadian Association for Psychosocial Oncology, and the International Association for Near-Death Studies. He is also featured in the upcoming documentaries, Here Right Now, and When You Die You won't want to miss this opportunity to spend these special days in conversation, worship, and silence, as we explore the Spirit together.
