5 Volunteers are the life-blood of our Church community and we look forward to working with you on our Parish team! VOLUNTEER for such positions as: Ushers, Money Counters, Catering Assistance, Pre-Baptism Instructors, Marriage rehearsal guides, and any other way that will help the parish community to be strong! We need more Volunteers to assist with table setting for catered events. Tables are set either the day before or the day of the event. We provide refreshments and light lunch to all of our volunteers. Please contact Lynne Fletcher at May Announcements for Children of Mary and Sodality Friday May 5, 6:30-8:00 pm - Meeting in the Cultural Centre in preparation for Sodochok Mother's Day Concert. Sunday, May 7 - Capes and Veils for the 11:00 am Divine Liturgy - followed by a light lunch in the Cultural Centre. The Children of Mary and Sodality will sing a few hymns at the intermission of the Mother s Day Sadochok Concert. Sunday, May 14 - Mother's Day - the Children of Mary, their mother's and the Sodality will be handing out flowers before both the 9:00 am and 11:00 am Divine liturgies. The free will offering is our only big fundraiser. Please, when invited, sign up. We need girls and mothers at the three entrances to the church for each Divine liturgy. Saturday, May 6 - Volunteer Appreciation Night - All parishioners especially those that have volunteered or offered their help in any way in our parish are invited to attend. 6 Friday, May 12 - You are invited to a Dinner-Theater evening, at the Cultural Centre, sponsored by the Ukrainian Language Arts Society - Dance School and Kupalo. This is also their Year-End Concert. Join us for a full meal and a family-friendly dance party. Children under 5 - free, 6-12 years - $25, Adults - $35. Camp St. Basil - Children s Summer Camp Program - Sunday, July 2 to Saturday, July 15 for children aged seven (7) to fourteen (14). Register for week one or week two or for both weeks. Pick up your registration in the Church vestibule. Eparchial Acolyte Camp St. Basil - 4 pm Monday, August 7, to noon Saturday August 12. PICK UP YOUR REGISTRATION in the Church vestibule. St. Basil s Acolytes (Altar Boys) please bring your applications to Fr. Josaphat to have your registration fee paid for by the parish. You must register before July 24.

7 Is it not amazing how God works in our lives! On a Saturday night several weeks ago, a pastor was working late, and decided to call his wife before he left for home. It was about 10:00 PM, but his wife did not answer the phone. The pastor let it ring many times. He thought it was odd that she did not answer, but decided to wrap up a few things and try again in a few minutes. When he tried again she answered right away. He asked her why she had not answered before, and she said that it had not rung at their house. They brushed it off as a fluke and went on their merry ways. The following Monday, the pastor received a call at the church office, which was the phone that he had used that Saturday night. The man that he spoke with wanted to know why he had called on Saturday night. The pastor could not figure out what the man was talking about. Then the man said, "It rang and rang, but I did not answer." The pastor remembered the mishap and apologized for disturbing him, explaining that he had intended to call his wife. The man said, "That is OK. Let me tell you my story. You see, I was planning to commit suicide on Saturday night, but before I did, I prayed, 'God if you are there, and you do not want me to do this, give me a sign now.' At that point my phone started to ring. I looked at the caller ID, and it said, 'Almighty God'. I was afraid to answer!" The reason why it showed on the man's caller ID that the call came from "Almighty God" is because the church that the pastor attends is called Almighty God Tabernacle!! If you believe that God answers prayers then tell this story to others. God bless! YOUR CROSS Whatever your cross Whatever your pain There will always be sunshine. After the rain Perhaps you may stumble Perhaps even fall But God's always there To help you through it all. - I do not know why some people change churches; what difference does it make which one you stay home from? - Peace starts with a smile. - Be ye fishers of men. You catch 'em - He will clean 'em. - People are funny; they want the front of the bus, the middle of the road, and the back of the church. - Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on the front door forever.

8 An excellent career description! A woman named Emily renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk's office was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation. She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself. "What I mean is," explained the recorder, "do you have a job, or are you just a?" "Of course I have a job," snapped Emily. "I'm a Mum." "We do not list 'Mum' as an occupation... 'housewife' covers it," said the recorder emphatically. I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself in the same situation, this time at our own Town Hall. The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised, efficient, and possessed of a high sounding title like, "Official Interrogator" or "Town Registrar." "What is your occupation?" she probed. What made me say it, I do not know... The words simply popped out. "I am a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations." The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in midair, and looked up as though she had not heard right. I repeated the title slowly, emphasizing the most significant words. Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire. "Might I ask," said the clerk with new interest, "just what you do in your field?" Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice, I heard myself reply, "I have a continuing program of research, (what mother does not), in the laboratory and in the field, (normally I would have said indoors and out). I am working for my Masters, (the whole darned family), and already have four credits, (all daughters). Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities, (any mother care to disagree?) and I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it). But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money." There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door. As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career, I was greeted by my lab assistants - ages 13, 7, and 3. Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model, (a 6 month old baby), in the child-development program, testing out a new vocal pattern. I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy! And I had gone on the official records as someone more distinguished and indispensable to mankind than "just another Mum." Motherhood... What a glorious career! Especially when there is a title on the door. Does this make grandmothers "Senior Research Associates in the field of Child Development and Human Relations" and great-grandmothers "Executive Senior Research Associates"? I think so! I also think it makes Aunts "Associate Research assistants". (Note: Remember Mother s Day is fast approaching)
