2 President s Message Submitted by Shirley Wozimirsky The Christmas festivities are over and the decorations packed for another year. NOW we start preparing ourselves for the biggest feast day on our Church Calendar and that is EASTER. This year the Latin and Ukrainian Easters fall on the same day April 20, Great Lent begins on MONDAY, MARCH 3, The April bulletin will focus exclusively on Easter. Congratulations to Rt. Reverend Mitred Protopresbyter Father Nicholas on reaching your highest elevation as a priest in our Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Enjoy your award. GET WELL WISHES are extended to Rt. Rev. Father Nicholas and Dobr. Jeannette, Mack Skoreyko, Rose Schribar, Bessie Zadimersky, Jean Pawlyk and any other parish members who are ill. We'll keep you in our prayers so that you are feeling better soon. MEMBERSHIP FEES are $ per person for Once you reach the age of 18, you can become a member of our parish. Please pay your membership fee as soon as possible preferably by March 31, Our parish current membership number as of December 31, 2013 is 123 people. The levy payment for 2014 to the Consistory is $85.00 per person. The Western Eparchy levy is $15.00 per person. Our parish is obligated to pay St. Stephen s Cemetery $10, toward the operation of the cemetery for this year. We NEED two representatives to attend the bimonthly meetings of the cemetery. Meetings are held at St. John s Cathedral. Please contact Shirley at (780) if you are interested in the job. The parish bingo license expires May 31, At the annual meeting it was decided to renew our license for another two years. Deadline for the application is March 1, This means that you are expected to help work those bingos. Alberta Benevolent Cantors Association is holding their annual meeting on Sunday, March 9, Membership fee is $5.00. Please try to attend this meeting and become informed. Meeting will be held after the Divine Liturgy at St. Elias Parish. This organization needs to hear your ideas. Working for God on earth does not pay much, but His Retirement plan is out of this world. Birthdays are good for you; the more you have the longer you live. Who needs google? I don t need Google, my wife knows everything. You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.

6 Ukrainian Women s Association of Canada союз українок канади відділ княгині ольги St. Michael s Ukrainian Women s Association February- March 2014 We are entering the holiest time of year for all Christians. That is Easter and all the preparations that are defined for us by our Orthodox faith. We are so fortunate to have these guidelines. We don t have to decide which hymn to sing in church or the music we should learn. These are all laid out for us by the Orthodox faith. We are so fortunate to have this process defined for us, all in preparation for Easter and the celebration of the Resurrection. We should all take extra steps during this season to attend extra services by going to confession and accepting communion. Pyrohy/Cabbage Roll Workshops Workshops are once again being held every Tuesday. All women and men are asked to come Tuesday mornings at 9:00 to help make pyrohy. This is an excellent time to enjoy each others company. We have a financial obligation to support the parish and the proceeds from these workshops are a major source of revenue for the Women s Association. Memorial Service As long as we pray for the deceased, they will lie in peace and their memory will be eternal. During the Lenten period a special effort is made to remember our loved ones. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 10:00 a.m. People may bring kolachi and fruit to be blessed and then shared with others all in memory of the deceased. The Women s Association will add the names of their deceased members in the past year on to a commemorative plaque. This plaque will be brought into the church on March 15 and Father Nicholas will read all the names. May their Memory be Eternal. Within the past few years several of our parish members have passed away. Their families are especially invited to attend this service. This is a memorial service for everyone. For this occasion, the women are asked to wear a head covering, either a hat or a kerchief. This is a sign of respect for the church as well as their deceased loved ones. Following the service, everyone is invited to the parish basement to share a fellowship of coffee and blessed bread. Blessing of Candles February 15 is Stritennia. Father Nicholas will be blessing candles. Bring your special candle(s) to church to bless, take them home and light the candle in your home. This is an uplifting moment in your life. A blessed candle could also be purchased in the church. Passia Service Every Sunday evening during the Lenten season a Passia service will be held in one of our sister parishes. The service is usually followed with a lecture by a guest clergy and a fellowship lunch put on by the host parish. This special evening service will be held at St. Michael s on Sunday, April 6. 9 St Michael s Men s Society President s Report by Ron Kluchka I hope all had the opportunity to take in the many festivities of the Christmas season (Svyata Vecherya, Malanka and Jordan). On behalf of St Michael s Men s Society, I would like to thank all those who have stepped forward volunteering to serve on the board, as an executive member or on committees for One can not stress enough how valuable your efforts are and how this Parish would not be what it is if you did not volunteer your time. Thank you to the Women s Association and all the volunteers who made the Malanka a huge successful. Special thanks to Epiphany supper committee and volunteers, an excellent meal was served and it was enjoyed by all. Our 2014 PUSCHINIA takes place on February 22 nd and the Sparkling Tones will be providing the music. Tell your family, friends, neighbors and who ever else might listen and buy a ticket. To purchase tickets, please contact: Myron@ Our next casino has been scheduled on Wednesday, June 4 th and Thursday, June 5th, 2014 at the Casino Yellowhead ( Street). This two day event results in a large monetary reward. We have many positions to fill and would appreciate your help and commitment. Please see me and fill out a volunteer application.
