May we all rejoice in the Resurrection of Christ and with it the mystery of our salvation. Eternal Memory! Our deepest sympathy goes to Kay Pitula and family on the recent passing of her husband Steve Pitula on March 10, We also express condolences to the family of Peter Ewanus who passed away on March 11, Our sympathy also goes out to Mary Paltzat. Her brother, Dr. Andrew Hartford (Horoshko) passed away on March 4, May you cherish the memory of your only brother forever. To the people who have recently lost a loved one, we extend our sincere sympathy. Memorial Saturday During the Lenten season, Divine Liturgy is celebrated on Saturdays and are devoted to the memory of the deceased. This year a special Soul Saturday service was held on March 7. About thirty people attended. Many of the people brought kolachi and fruit to be blessed in memory of the deceased loved ones. Bazaar Thank You! The hard work of many women and men prior to the bazaar held on March 21 was successful. A huge thank you to all the workers who helped before the bazaar and the day of the bazaar. Without your dedication and commitment, the bazaar would not be possible. Almost all of the money raised goes to the parish to help pay salaries, utilities and maintenance. You are invited to Easter Blessed Luncheon Sunday, April 19, :00 a.m. Divine Liturgy 12:00 Easter Luncheon Adults $ and under free Everyone is invited to attend church service and then partake of this special Easter meal of paska, butter, sausage, cheese, ham, and boiled eggs. 11 St. Michael s Ukrainian Orthodox Parish Soul Saturday Memorial Service March 7, 2015 During the Easter Lent, every Saturday is Soul Saturday. This is a time to remember the deceased. St. Michael s Parish focuses on the first Saturday of Lent. Parish members and the general public are encouraged to attend this special service commemorating their loved ones. If they wish, they could bring kolachi, apples, oranges, grapes, or pears to be blessed. This is called pomana. The names of their loved ones is recorded in a little booklet called a pomyanek or on a sheet of paper. This is given to the priest to read out the names during the service and then again at the special memorial held at the end of the service a panaheda.

12 Page 2 Coffee and tea is available in the hall following the service. Everyone brings their pomana into the hall, cuts the kolach and some of the fruit and a memorial lunch is shared with everyone. Some pomana is given away to a relative or a friend in memory of their loved one. As long as we continue to pray and remember the deceased, their soul and memory will live in peace forever. The Knyhynia Ol ha Branch have a large plaque with the names of all their deceased members. This plaque is brought into the church and all the names are read out. May their memory be eternal. D. 13 St Michael s Men s Society President s Report by Ron Kluchka Now that the snow is melting and the rabbits are turning brown, hopefully the cold weather is behind us and we can enjoy some warmer weather and sunshine. I would like to wish one and all, a Happy Easter. We will soon be sitting down to eat our paska, babkas, kubasa, eggs, cheese & horseradish. Enjoy your time with family and friends and for those who are travelling, have a safe & enjoyable journey. Many thanks to all the volunteers that contributed and helped make our February puschinia a success. A huge thank you goes out to the wonderful people who volunteered and worked the bingos in the last two months. Your time means funds in the church s bank account. Greatly appreciated are the efforts of the gentlemen who looked into and helped solve the snow blowing problem and to those who are now working on resolving the air circulation problem in the auditorium. Thank you to those that have been attending the Men s Society bi-monthly meetings. The next bi-monthly meeting will be held on April 6 th at 7:00 p.m. and I hope that all members will attend.
