SERVICES TODAY The Holy Theophany of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ will be celebrated today at 1:00 pm. The Great Blessing of Water will also take place. There will be a Theophany velija in the Main Hall between morning and afternoon services. UPCOMING SERVICES: January. 25 th - There will be a Panachida in memory of Justina & Michael Kormanik and John & Alizbieta Kormanik given by Mr. and Mrs. Jan Kormanik & Family February. 8 th There will be a Parastas in memory of Fr. Protodeacon Joseph & Pani Olga Hotrovich and parents Fred & Euphemia Polik, and brother, William given by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Polik & family. This service will be performed before Liturgy at 9:15am because of the scheduled Annual Parish Meeting. The Holy Theophany of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ commemorates His baptism by John the Baptist in the River Jordan and marks the beginning of Christ's earthly ministry. Also on this day, the Great Blessing of Water is performed and families take the blessed water home to be used by the priest during the blessing of the homes of the faithful. The Holy Trinity appears for the first time together in written record during this Holy Day- God's voice is heard from Heaven while the Holy Spirit descends on Christ in the form of a dove as depicted in the above icon. 2 We wish all of those travelling on the cruise a safe and enjoyable trip. The group of 51 people will be leaving on January 23 through February 2. Father Alexandre will remember everyone in his prayers during Liturgy today and will offer a special prayer and blessing for those who will be in church this Sunday. Altar Society Meeting TODAY This is a very important meeting. We will be discussing restructuring the Altar Society to best handle the group s increasing responsibilities and change of leadership. Get your coffee and velija lunch and join us in #2 Hall. Please be aware that this meeting is tentative based on the need for last minute travel plans. ARE YOU UP-TO-DATE WITH YOUR DUES? Did you know that St Nicholas Church is obligated to pay the diocese for each registered member of our parish? Even if you have not paid your dues, we must still submit payment for you. 3 NEW YEAR S EVE CELEBRATION The sold-out crowd who attended the 2015 New Year's Celebration enjoyed a wonderful evening of magnificent food & drink, dancing "till dawn", amazing raffle prizes, spontaneous singing and a night of fun. Among the guests were Ambassador František Ružička, Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic to the United Nations and Jana Trnovcova, General Counsel of Slovakia in New York. The decorations were beautiful and music by Vox Ethnika filled the air. The event was planned by Doreen Clemente, Helena Gajdos and Magda Matlak. Chef George Chobor and his assistant Justina prepared a fantastic "Krajova Domaca Zabyjačka" and cocktail buffet, followed by a fourcourse meal. Our deepest appreciation to, Doreen, Helena, Magda, George and Justina, for all of your hard work to create an unforgettable event and a wonderful start to the New Year.
