FORGIVENESS SUNDAY later marks the beginning of the Great Fast! On this day, we will celebrate forgiveness vespers and enter into the season with the mutual exchange of forgiveness. It is the most important act we can enter into with one another, going into our spiritual labors free of the weight and burden of sins. It also marks our reminder to seek out Holy Confession with God by scheduling it with the parish priest and coming for our Lenten services during the week. MAY GOD GRANT TO ALL A BLESSED FAST! ORTHODOXY SUNDAY is not only a celebration of the use of iconography in our worship, it is a celebration of ALL Orthodox worship, of ALL observances, of EVERY aspect of our faith. And as it is said in the proclamation after the procession: This is the Faith of the Orthodox! This is the Faith which has established the universe! These blessed images are images of our heavenly family and any veneration (kiss) given is a kiss of love & reverence upon them, not the item depicting them

We are continuing our study of Moses & his connection to Jesus Christ, ahead of our showing of The Ten Commandments (1956) on April 7 th & 14 th. FORGIVENESS VESPERS, 1:30 PM: Stick around as we take our first official step into Great Lent, and we will celebrate together here in our parish home and have invited other sister parishes from the deanery to join us. It will be followed with the traditional exchange of asking forgiveness from one another and the kiss of peace. We will invite our brothers & sisters downstairs afterward, bring a strict fast dish (no meat or dairy) to share! OR, YOU CAN GO TO FORGIVENESS VESPERS, 3 PM: If you need to get on your way and find it to be closer to home, you can make it to St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 211 West Grand Avenue, Rahway, NJ, THIS WEEK WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13 th PRESANCTIFIED 7 PM: We do not perform Divine during weekdays of Great Lent, being dedicated to more solemn celebration. That said, still desiring for the faithful to receive the Body & Blood of Christ, distribute presanctified Holy Communion. For those who can come, are reminded to fast from all food & drink for at least 3 hours leading up to. FRIDAY, MARCH 15 th CAMP NAZARETH 10 AM: Those who have reserved their places on the bus will travel to Camp Nazareth together from our sister parish of Sts Peter & Paul in Rockaway, NJ. We will return on Sunday evening together. CAMP NAZARETH REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN! If you would like to sign up your child (ages 718) for Camp Nazareth, a weeklong beautiful, spiritual camping experience in Western Pennsylvania, registration is open at click on the link Register Online and follow instructions. Stay tuned for instructions on how to sign up for the bus to Camp! The NY/NJ Deanery is camping during Session #2: July 21 st 27 th ALSO, RESERVE YOUR SEAT ON THE CAMP BUS! The Deanery requires $85 to reserve a twoway trip on the camp bus, which will likely leave from our sister parish of Sts Peter & Paul in Rockaway, NJ on Sunday, July 21 st. Contact Fr. Their services are certified by the IRS and completely free of charge. They are also open to taxpayers of ALL AGES, not just seniors, and you DO NOT have to be an AARP member to receive their help. IF YOU WOULD LIKE THEIR ASSISTANCE, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHOW UP TO ONE OF THEIR SESSIONS HERE ON WEDNESDAYS FROM 10 AM TO 2 PM. THE GREAT FAST: A REMINDER THAT CONFESSIONS ARE AVAILABLE Fr. William will be available for confessions before on Sundays, before & after Lenten services, and by appointment throughout the week. All are encouraged to also attend Deanery Mission services and make their confessions before or after. 6 PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Up until today, 5Day Votive Candles have been distributed in the parish for the recommended donation amount of $3 each, in order to meet the former parish costs of purchasing them and getting them shipped here. The recommended amount has been increased to $4 apiece in order to help meet rising costs and in balance with the normal amount seen in diocesan & in area churches, which is often even more. If you have them in your yard, upon bloom, bring them to the Church as soon as they re ready we will store them. We have noticed that a number of homes are already seeing buds, cut them quickly! 2) Come Help Clean the Church & Wrap Willows & Palms for Palm Sunday. We get together every Lazarus Saturday (April 20 th ) to do this while nut rolls are being baked in the kitchen, and might even have an opportunity to do Pysanki for the children! Try and commit the day. We ll even have Choir practice, if we can get enough participation. 3) Donated Items: Please see Magda in the office to donate one of the items for use during Holy Week & Pascha: IDEAS FOR PICKING UP THE LENTEN PACE: Each year, we limit how much we eat, fasting from meats & dairy products, but Lent is more than what we DON T do! What can we DO more often this season? LENTEN SERVICES More Church services become available during Lent, try and find one near you! FOOD & CLOTHING DONATION Our parish does yearround food collection for the food pantry, consider bringing a few cans each Sunday when you come in for Church! It would make a difference. READ SCRIPTURE There are assigned regular readings yearround in the Church calendar, try to read them all of Lent! For help in understanding the readings better, you can always get an Orthodox Study Bible from the shop. DAILY PRAYER Whether you have your Chlib Duši or another Orthodox prayer book, these all contain regular morning & evening prayers. Make them a landmark in your day! VISITING ONE ANOTHER Know someone who could use a visit? Maybe someone is in the hospital or alone at home? Make a visit, write a card, give a little time. SPRING CLEANING It s important to treat the home as a house of prayer! Like a Church! Take a little extra time to open the windows and give the place a deep clean.
